  21. I had some interesting, intelligent conversation over my grouping all the
  22. alleged pirates into one list - thanks, guys, who emailed me with clear and
  23. level-headed thoughts.

  25. Blacklisting is a dangerous thing to do - in short I did a stupid thing by
  26. making the list, my point was more to show the volume of copies out there.
  27. But to blacklist leads to violations of more rights further down the road.  The
  28. whole two wrong don't make a right deal.  I apologize to everyone in
  29. alt.games.doom for this.  It's impossible to assume the circumstances behind
  30. every person's post.

  34. - DOOM II pirate posts seriously jepoardize id's good relationship with the
  35. internet and this newsgroup.
  36. - No matter how much DOOM I made, there is no justification for stealing
  37.  from id.  Theft is theft, no matter how much or little money the victim has.
  38. - If id wanted you to try DOOM II and then pay for it later, they would have
  39. released it as shareware.
  40. - There is no need to try the game before hand - it's almost the exact same
  41. game as DOOM, and the 1.6 beta uses the same executable.  Most of us have
  42. played these.

  44. For those of you who told me to pipe down, because I haven't lost any money.
  45. Perhaps ... indirectly.  But I wouldn't mind paying less for the copy I do buy
  46. so I don't have to pay for yours.  Supply and demand - ever heard of it? And
  47. even though I may not have lost any cash, this sort of pirating nonsense will
  48. only force id to become a less approachable, copy-coding, big-business
  49. conglomerate.  If this happens, I think we all lost something and I have a
  50. right to be angry.
