  17. Just a few thoughts on pirates. I have a friend who reprimands me for
  18. paying for software.  He must have over 2000 various pieces of software
  19. on disks.  He is constantly asking me to copy my games and other software.
  20. I'm sorry, but I don't pay $50.00 for a game only to let my "buddy" copy
  21. it for free.  Whether he would buy it or not is not the issue; the issue
  22. is: I bought it.  I know him well and he would NEVER buy software, NEVER.
  23. I feel these hard-core pirates will not buy Doom 2 for no other reason
  24. other than they are pirates.  They WILL NOT BUY SOFTWARE.  It is so
  25. readily available to them they don't have to.  I have my doubts as to
  26. how many people who post here actually purchased a copy of Doom.  When
  27. the letter from GT Software came, there was very little talk here about
  28. it initially.  I actually came here to find out what anyone knew about
  29. the letter.  I knew it was a valid offer, I just didn't know how much
  30. sooner than Oct. 10 we would receive the game.  I asked if anyone here
  31. had called the number and if they had any information on how soon we
  32. would get the game and no one posted anything.  Then came the questions
  33. from everyone else about the letter.  I can only recall a handful of
  34. people writing anything about the letter.  This led me to believe that
  35. the vast majority of the people here didn't get the letter.  It was sent
  36. to all people who had a registered copy of Doom.  So please, don't be
  37. hipocritical, if you didn't buy Doom, don't bitch about the people who
  38. have Doom 2.  As for the people who own Doom 2, please stop telling us
  39. all the details.  I, personally like the element of surprise.  It is
  40. one of the best things about getting a new game.  It is like telling us
  41. the ending to a great movie while we're in the lobby buying popcorn.
  42. So, the most common sense thing to do is to quit bitching at the pirates,
  43. and pirates, please have some consideration for those of us who don't
  44. have Doom 2 yet and refrain from posting stuff about it.  And one thing
  45. for software companies to consider, if they are going to make a game on
  46. 2 formats (disk & cd-rom) I suggest they release the cd version months
  47. ahead of the disk version.  This way, the people who can't wait will
  48. have to get it legally, and the software companies will profit more
  49. from the added front-end sales.  I would wholeheartedly endorse this.
  50. I'm sorry for rambling, but I wanted to put my two hundreths of a dollar
  51. in.
