  23. All this commotion about piracy has gotten me to thinking about an 
  24. interesting double standard that I've come across. Pirating software is a 
  25. heinous act of immorality, while pirating tapes of music seems to be just 
  26. fine... I see people on the music groups trading bootleg recordings of 
  27. live performances all the time, or talking about giving taped copies of 
  28. CD's to friends, and I've never seen anybody even get slightly miffed 
  29. about it. I would even go so far as to wager that some of the 
  30. self-proclaimed net.cops on this group have at some time given or 
  31. received illegal copies of copyrighted music, thus making them just 
  32. exactly as immoral as those who they accuse.

  34. I invite any of the anti-piracy zealots who have never copied or received a 
  35. copy of a musical recording, never recorded a copyrighted movie off of
  36. television and maybe given a copy to a friend, who have never violated the 
  37. copyright agreement on any piece of intellectual work they have owned, to 
  38. stand up, and proclaim their overwhelming morality. I will recognize it, 
  39. gladly. No doubt there are some of you, but a good number of you are no 
  40. doubt engaging in the whole pot/kettle/black thing.
