Hi,
The harddrive on my college room-mate's computer seemed
to die unexpectingly. We decided that we would install
the game on MY computer, and check out DOOM with a
Sound Blaster Pro card. (I don't know about the LEGAL
issues having the game on my computer, but I can say
that the game WILL be erased after he moves out or
college ends -- I am not a pirate.)
At any rate, my question is:
We are having difficulties achieving FX sound using
the registered version of DOOM 1.2.
Now, I've read that Doom 1.2 does have some sound bugs,
so I downloaded the shareware 1.6 beta version of
DOOM to see if the problems were corrected.
The 1.6 beta version of DOOM ran perfectly fine.
When I attempt to run the registered 1.2 version of DOOM
the error:
W_ReadLump: only read 0 of 27422 on lump 366
occurs right after the main screen.
In the 1.6 beta version of DOOM, DMFAQ57.TXT states that
a file dm1_4rpt.zip exists, which will patch your registered
version of DOOM up to 1.4.
I have not been able to find this on the internet.
If this file IS obtainable, will version 1.4 fix the FX sound
bug, or will my roommate and I have to suffer (like everyone
else, I'm assuming) until 1.666 is released?
Oh, and I have tried using the file 16REGVR2.ZIP, which uses
the registered 1.2 version, the 1.6 beta version, and a couple
other files to put you to 1.6 "registered".
The same error occured.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
/jeffrey.
