  16. The harddrive on my college room-mate's computer seemed
  17. to die unexpectingly.  We decided that we would install
  18. the game on MY computer, and check out DOOM with a
  19. Sound Blaster Pro card.  (I don't know about the LEGAL
  20. issues having the game on my computer, but I can say
  21. that the game WILL be erased after he moves out or
  22. college ends -- I am not a pirate.)

  24. At any rate, my question is:

  26. We are having difficulties achieving FX sound using
  27. the registered version of DOOM 1.2.
  28.  
  29. Now, I've read that Doom 1.2 does have some sound bugs,
  30. so I downloaded the shareware 1.6 beta version of
  31. DOOM to see if the problems were corrected.

  33. The 1.6 beta version of DOOM ran perfectly fine.
  34.  
  35. When I attempt to run the registered 1.2 version of DOOM
  36. the error:

  38.            W_ReadLump: only read 0 of 27422 on lump 366
  39.  
  40. occurs right after the main screen.
  41.  
  42. In the 1.6 beta version of DOOM, DMFAQ57.TXT states that
  43. a file dm1_4rpt.zip exists, which will patch your registered
  44. version of DOOM up to 1.4.
  45.  
  46. I have not been able to find this on the internet.
  47.  
  48. If this file IS obtainable, will version 1.4 fix the FX sound
  49. bug, or will my roommate and I have to suffer (like everyone
  50. else, I'm assuming) until 1.666 is released?
  51.  
  52. Oh, and I have tried using the file 16REGVR2.ZIP, which uses
  53. the registered 1.2 version, the 1.6 beta version, and a couple
  54. other files to put you to 1.6 "registered".

  56. The same error occured.

  58. Any help is greatly appreciated.
