  12. I'm writing in defense of sward+@andrew.cmu.edu.  I also attend CMU and
  13. frequent the PC cluster.  DOOM ][ is without a doubt on every machine in
  14. the lab.  It won't be removed, simply because it is replaced as soon as
  15. it is removed.  I don't know who got the initial version, but everyone
  16. has played it.  People who know nothing about computers or ftping are
  17. playing it.  They only know DOOM is cool, so DOOM ][ is cooler.  They
  18. are not responsible, but they are playing the game.  Does this make them
  19. pirates?  They don't know the game is a commercial product, and no one
  20. knows where it came from.  But the fact is, they're playing it.  You
  21. can't walk into the lab without it being on a few screens.  Obviously,
  22. CMU admins don't know about it yet.  I'm sure they'll deal with it when
  23. they do.  Until then, the game will continually be on the machines. 
  24. Therefore, it is unfair to blacklist (essentially what you're proposing
  25. to do) one person who has innocently played a really cool game that he
  26. found on public computers.  So I hope you'll all reconsider killing all
  27. his posts.  The others, I can't vouch for, but I know many WILL buy the
  28. game when it comes out (they have said as much).  If you want to
  29. blacklist me too, fine, I really don't care.  It seems a mite bit
  30. immature for a conference like this, but then again, it seems as if
  31. you're just jealous that you CAN'T get a copy, legal or not.
