OK then, you want more speed... You do not need to buy any more equipment,
nor do you need to persist with the Network option...
I strongly suggest you find a copy of bnud126.zip or ser4.zip or even
rms255b.zip (I think) . These are third party replacement SERSETUP.EXE
programs. They are much easier to use than the ID one and although the
ID one can be sped up, I have used the others with great results. I think
the problem lies with you using the default 9600bps serial rate. If you up
the rate to 38400 or even 57600 then the serial method works great.
Using BNUD126 at 57600 with two 486 2/66's The speed was as good as single
player. Even using one 486 2/66 and one 386dx40 the speed was good. You
DON'T need high speed serial chips to do this trick. On a plain vanilla
16450 (not 16550 :-( ) I frequently use fastlynx at 115200 with no problems.
I would humbly suggest that your speed problems come from your 386sx. (Which
on reflection might have trouble keeping up with the higher baud rates)
In any case, the serial cable is not the bottleneck. The 386sx is the limiting
factor.

Replies are always nice :-) I can forward the above programs to you if you
really need them. They're all on INFANT2 or mirrors.
