Nothing wrong with uploading to a mirror, but it won't propagate to
the other mirrors... I did not intend to infer that you *shouldn't*
upload elsewhere - just to hang onto it for when infant2 comes back.
Some of the mirrors don't even mirror the incoming directory. And others
(probably) don't allow writing into it (thus no uploads - at least there).
And furthermore (this is speculation), if you did manage to upload into
the equivalent of /pub/doom/incoming at a mirror, as soon as infant2 is
up again and the mirror site is able to update its mirror, your upload
will disappear, since it will not be found at infant2 and will be deleted
at the mirror in order to make the mirror live up to it's name and function.
I agree that there will be a massive crunch when infant2 comes back up.
All the more reason to download from a mirror site if at all possible
(like for things known to be not recent and therefore mirrored elsewhere).
Leave access open for those needing to upload.
