The system is currently in Alpha stages. This of course means that it is
not
ready to license. We have tons of testing to complete and lots of legal
issues to deal with before we release the server.
By the way, we have had several hundred calls from folks around the world
who are extremely interested in our product. We would gladly let it out
the
door if it were ready. We don't believe in distributing a product of
questionable functionality. When we feel good about it, have documented
everything and put it into a presentable format, have ironed out all of
the
legal issues including international software distribution issues, we will
post
the pricing and let it be licensed! I am sure that there are a few of you
have gone through exactly the same procedures and know that it takes
time and especially money.
As far as the product not working "worth a damn," we have users across
the US and Canada who are regulars now and call here to play for hours.
Our 3.0 release ironed out a few communications difficulties, but the
biggest improvement was made when corrections in id's code were made
in DOOM version 1.6bt. We have been anxiously awaiting updates to the
software that have been pending in every release since 1.2!
I suggest you call and try again. If you continue to have problems of ANY
sort, it is on your end. Please call us at 1-800-535-APCi and we will be
very
happy to help you. Our techs spent over 3 hours one night last week at
about 3:00AM helping a guy in Chicago rebuild his PC to get rid of his
serial
port conflicts. By the way, we are answering the phones here almost 24
hours
a day to keep up with tech support as well as the international phone
traffic.
When is the last time you got 1-800 tech support for a freeware
application?!?
Last, you have no idea what we are going to charge because WE don't really
know what we will charge. The only figure that we have mentioned is about
$75 a player node. If that's too expensive, I sincerely apologize.
Operated
properly, an APCi MultiPlayer Game Server supporting DOOM alone should
pay for the software costs of a 4-node system in just a few days.
Try to have some patience. I would say that we have done fairly well
considering that we are the only company on the planet that has this
working, much less working REALLY well, and considering that we
developed the whole thing in less than 3 months.
