I do that. I have a "footpad" I use with my Gravis Gamepad. This way I
can do all things at once: move, strafe, shoot, and run. I have right
foot=run, and left foot=strafe. (Right=run=accelerator pedal...of course!)
The disadvantage I have relative to mouse users is their ability to turn
at different speeds, and fine control. On the other hand, this hardware
hack puts me on par with keyboard users - and I get to continue to use my
gamepad, which I like the "gameplay" with. Using the mouse just doesn't
seem "right" to me. That's why there's probably a resistance to using it
for many people. I think I'm pretty darn good with this set-up, but
you'll not get any arguments from me about the advantages of using a
mouse. I just don't think that it's as much fun.
