You may have more luck trying to port this to vgalib on Linux. I
don't know anything about VGAlib, but I do know X. The bit problem
you will have with this is that it's event driven. As I recall DEU is
largely polled, which is going to make it very difficult to convert;
it usually requires a different programming approach from ground up.
