PET> One more thought on this. There were a few other
PET> games along the same
PET> line (and story line also). There was Starglider
PET> (c64 and IBM), which
PET> was more of an arcade type game, then Starglider II, which was one of
PET> my favorites, which had the ultimate goal of
PET> destroying a space station,
PET> which required you to gather various materials from various planet so
PET> they could build a bomb for you. Although set in
PET> one solar system, there
PET> were 10 or so planets, and other ships (even a
PET> whale) flying around in
PET> space. Some of the planets had tunnels you dived into and went into
PET> underground tunnel systems. Overall I had a blast
PET> playing it, but when I
PET> finally got the bomb and flew to the station, I
PET> was either too late or the
PET> game had a bug, because the station kept disappearing. There was
PET> another game, Trakker, I think, which was along
PET> the same story line, but it
PET> didn't seem to run right for me. All in all, I had
PET> the most fun with the
PET> original Elite for IBM and with Starglider II.
Hmmm, well you should really try Elite II... there's been so much added.
Starglider II was great... I still have it around here somehwere. One
feature added to Elite II that wasn't in Elite was realistic space flight.
Speaking a realisim... anybody think the chaingun fires too slow to be of
any use? I changed it and now it's actually usefull. Unfortunatly it ate up
ammo like crazy... But that was easy to change also. Perhaps in the next
version of doom we can hope to see faster weapons that do MUCH more
damage!
