I agree! I think it is one of the best games that has come onto the mass
market. But then again, I used to think galaxian was one of the best games
that had come onto the market, when it did. It will be interesting to see how
much of an impact Doom II will have. I think one thing that will bring it, (or
an equivalent), back into popularity is VR devices. When VR devices become
cheaply and freely available, then you'll really see these sort of games
becoming popular again.
I used to play it a lot, but got, (yes that's right), incredibly bored with
it. There's only so much you can get out of a game. In fact I think EVERY game
is like that. You get it, you are absolutely enthralled by it for a while, (eg
play it for 8 hours a day for the first couple of days.), then it "loses" it
lustre, but you are still enthralled by it, then you get a bit sick of
spending so much time on it, then you get TOTALLY sick of spending so much
time on it and think there are better things to be doing than sitting, staring
in front of a stupid phosphouring device for hours.
Dunno, every game I've ever played has been exactly like that....
