We have been screwing around with the 1.5 beta since the hacks to use it
with the registered version were posted. Everything seems to work as
before, excepting that the mouse bug is gone. Turbo works fine. (here
it comes) But the new Deathmatch 2.0 refuses to work. It crashes very
quickly every time. Normal deathmatch is fine. The crashes are
preceeded by a strange whooshing sound. I assumed this to be the
regeneration sound, but I don't know for sure. At any rate, Deathmatch
2.0 has been unusable for us. The one game that we were able to keep
going for a while (about 2 minutes, no more) was great. We played e1m1
and I had exclusive use of the rocket launcher for about 3 frags (until I
shot too near a corner and nailed myself). It was glorious! If I could
make it work, I'd never use anything other than -altdeath. Has anyone
else had this experience? Is it only due to the Hack? (no, I haven't
fully investigated yet, it's not my computer or my copy of DooM, so I
only get to play at the whim of those who are so fortunate. I'd get shot
if I had a copy of doom at work :( I don't understand why I can't get
paid to play computer games all day! :{) )
Regards,
Jeff
PS I don't own a computer (unless you count my Amiga 500), so I don't
own any games, but I've enjoyed DooM so much, that when 2.0 is available
for OS/2, I'm going to buy a copy just to say thanks. There! Have I
proven myself to be a fanatic for superior, but out of the mainstream
operating systems? :)
