  24. The only person I ever heard running Doom over a token ring was one of
  25. the system managers at a company somewhere.  Aparently they were
  26. playing happily for a few minutes when he recieved a phone call
  27. complaining that none of the fileservers were responding, on ANY of
  28. the networks.

  30. After a brief period of panic and a fast reboot on the machines
  31. concerned:) the problem disappeared.  The moral is: Doom over a token
  32. ring is very inefficient; requiring a lot of network bandwidth.
  33. Further unless your routers are setup so as not to pass broadcasts,
  34. you don't just lock up one network, you lock up all of them as the
  35. broadcast packet has to get to everywhere on the network.  The network
  36. may not be able to handle the extra load going from three to four
  37. player.
