The only person I ever heard running Doom over a token ring was one of
the system managers at a company somewhere. Aparently they were
playing happily for a few minutes when he recieved a phone call
complaining that none of the fileservers were responding, on ANY of
the networks.
After a brief period of panic and a fast reboot on the machines
concerned:) the problem disappeared. The moral is: Doom over a token
ring is very inefficient; requiring a lot of network bandwidth.
Further unless your routers are setup so as not to pass broadcasts,
you don't just lock up one network, you lock up all of them as the
broadcast packet has to get to everywhere on the network. The network
may not be able to handle the extra load going from three to four
player.
Hope this helps.
