Hehe, okay first a beta version is a test version. You really
shouldn't have a beta version unless you are an official tester. When
you design a new piece of software you go through a period of Alpha testing
where you work out major bugs and create a working version. Beta testing
is the next step. You give the software to a select group that try to
find bugs and errors. The release comes after this.
I don't think there was an official 'Beta' version of DooM (unless
you mean v0.9). If you have a beta version, delete it, you aren't supposed
to have it.
The shareware version is a sample of the game given out to
"wet the users whistles" for the real meat. In this case the shareware
version of DooM only has one episode, or nine levels. If you send in
X amount of cash they will send you the Registered version. It has two
new Episodes (i.e., eighteen new levels). And you get the ability and
the right to make new levels. Very cool stuff. I would suggest you get it.
