  4. This package contains the binaries for the TeX program and the MakeTeX*
  5. scripts. MakeTeXTFM tries to create a tfm file, MakeTeXMF tries to create a
  6. mf file and MakeTeXPK tries to create a pk file. Note that the MakeTeXPK 
  7. script can also uncompress pk fonts that are compressed with gzip. However, 
  8. the uncompressed fonts are not compressed again, but it can help to save 
  9. disk space, espcecially if you haver installed fonts that you do not need
  10. all the time. The current version of TeX is 3.1415 (C version 6.1). I
  11. changed the original web2c source code a little and applied the two patches
  12. mentioned in the INSTALL file for web2c to enable TeX to load more fonts and
  13. to reduce the size of the fonttables.
