Combat Command B, 2nd Armored Division, II Corps, Seventh Army
The Seventh Army beach-heads around Gela and Licata have attracted both Italian and German armored counterattacks. Three seperate attacks on the 10th accomplished nothing more than the loss of an infantry battalion in the hills to the northeast of Gela. A night of reorganization has allowed the Axis forces to make a united attack today. The tanks of the very green Hermann Goering Panzer Parachute Division were able to break through the forward lines of II Corps, and are now driving against the American supply lines over the beaches. An attempt to push the tanks of Combat Command B through the chaos off the beaches saw the better part of a company mired on the beaches. About a platoon of I/67 Armored Regiment was able to reach firm land. That platoon helped infantry and artillery elements of Combat Command B shatter the German spearhead just short of the beach-dunes. It was a very near-run thing.
