  4. This demo will allow you to play one track with a selection from 2 bikes and 2 teams.
  5. The game will run for 15 minutes after which it will exit. Enjoy...

  7. The full version of Redline Racer will be available from a store near you in March '98.

  18. Redline Racer requires Microsoft Direct X v5. If you do not have Direct X 5 you can

  24. Getting Started
  25. ---------------

  27. The Redline Racer help system explains the various
  28. elements of the game. You can look at help at any time
  29. by starting the game and pressing the F1 key.
  30.  
  31. For those of you who don't like reading manuals here
  32. are the key things you will need to know:
  33.  
  34. Default keys

  37. Up arrow        Up a gear (manual gearbox)
  38. Down arrow      Down a gear (manual gearbox)
  39. Left arrow      Turn left
  40. Right arrow     Turn right
  41. Left Shift      Accelerator
  42. Left Ctrl       Brake
  43. Z Key           Signal to other players
  44. A Key           Turbo boost
  45. ESC             Pause menu
  46. F1              Help
  47. F2              Change camera view

  49. The default keys can be changed in the 'configure' sub
  50. menu through the 'controls' option. The game can be
  51. controlled by keyboard, mouse and joystick.

  53. User Interface Navigation
  54. -------------------------

  56. o You can move around the user interface using
  57.   joystick, keyboard or mouse.
  58.  
  59. o Mouse control
  60.   + Move the arrow mouse pointer over the option you
  61.   want, click the leftmouse button to make an action
  62.   take place
  63.  
  64. o Keyboard control
  65.   + The cursor keys move between options, the arrow
  66.   showing what the current selection is
  67.   + Press 'Enter' when you are happy with a selection
  68.  
  69. o Joystick control
  70.   + Use up, down, left and right to move the arrow
  71.     around the options
  72.   + Press 'fire' to select an option

  74. Starting the game
  75. -----------------
  76.  
  77. Run Redline Racer -- 'Click' in this context means
  78. moving the mouse arrow pointer over the item mentioned
  79. and pressing the left mouse button once.
  80.      
  81. Click 'Start' to leave the opening screen.  The first
  82. time you run the game there will be a series of screens
  83. asking for your name and team selection. Future
  84. gameplay takes you directly to the Main Menu (see
  85. below).

  87. To enter your name using one of the two following
  88. methods:
  89.  
  90.   -  Use the arrow keys to scroll through the alphabet
  91.      until the required letter appears.  Then click
  92.      'Select' to enter the letter. Continue this
  93.      process until your name is complete.
  94.  
  95.   -  Alternatively, click on the name box and type in
  96.      your name.  When finished, click 'OK'.
  97.      
  98. Next chose your team.  Use the arrow keys to scroll
  99. through the available options and click on 'Male' or
  100. 'Female' as appropriate. Teams are represented by the
  101. 3D rider, which is you.  Once you have found the team 
  102. you want, click 'OK' to move on.

  104. Now the game's Main Menu appears.  This menu provides
  105. access to all functions of the game.  Follow the
  106. procedure below to start racing:
  107.      
  108.   1. Click on 'Arcade'.
  109.      
  110.   2. Select the desired track by clicking on the arrows
  111.      and then click 'OK'.
  112.      
  113.   3. Select the desired bike by clicking on the arrows
  114.      and then click 'OK'.
  115.      
  116.   4. Select the transmission you want on the bike by
  117.      clicking either on 'AT' for automatic or 'MT' for
  118.      manual transmission. Then click 'OK'.

  120.   5. The game begins after race information loads.

  127. o Why is there only one track?
  128.  
  129. This is only a demo, to play another 9 tracks look out 
  130. for the full version of Redline Racer in a store near 
  131. you trought March '98.

  133. o How do I access on-line help
  134.  
  135. You can access on-line help by running the game and
  136. pressing F1 at any time in the menus. A dialog box will
  137. appear asking if you are sure, just click 'OK' and the
  138. help will appear in your current web browser.

  140. o How do I change my name?
  141.  
  142. When the game first starts you are asked your name. The
  143. game will not ask you again. If you wish to change your
  144. name in the game go to 'Configure' in the main menu,
  145. and select 'name' to re-enter your name.
  146.  
  147. o The game runs slowly on my machine what do I do?
  148.  
  149. The game will run more quickly if the graphics options
  150. are changed. In particular the lower you can set
  151. 'Geometry Detail','Texture Detail','View Distance' and
  152. 'Field of View' the faster the game will run. See the
  153. online help for more details.
