In this demo you have 4 allied soldiers at your disposal. These soldiers are stranded deep within enemy territory. The full game is split into 6 campaigns,
each mission being connected by a strong storyline. In this demo you can
play the first 2 missions from the first campaign.
Each soldier can be controlled seperately. To change between your
men simply hit the TAB key. If you leave your soldier without giving him any commands his AI will take over and he will react in accordance to his surroundings, if under attack, he will return fire etc
You can issue your commands in two ways:
1. Game commands.
Follow me! Soldiers follow you, covering each other
Stop! Soldiers stop and guard the area
Move on! Soldiers run forward
Hey! If your soldier strays into your firing line he will move aside
Hold fire! No one fire until ordered
Commands are heard by all soldiers in view.
2. Map mode. Switch to map mode by pressing the SPACE key.
In the map mode the game timer stops, you will then have the option to individually program orders to your squad. This mode is particually useful for your tactical planning and strategy.
The currently selected player will be highlighted by red circle. You can use the action icons on the left side of the screen in order to issue commands to your troops. To return to the game, press the SPACE bar. Upon returning, your instructions will be executed by the troops.
It really depends on the player which way you choose to play, all out action or strategically. Use the map more often to be carefull.
As the game progresses, more thought and strategic planning will be necessary in order to complete your given missions.
Remember, the more troops you loose at the beginning of the campaign, the more difficult it will become to complete it. Tactical planning and thought will be the key to seeing your troops safely though the missions.
The first missions in the game is relatively easy, you
do not need to use the map quite as much as you will in subsequent missions.
The network game is started and its parameters are chosen in menu. 2 - 4 players may play the network game as a co-operative game. It is necessary to set the parameters before starting the network game.
As the first step, it is necessary to set the type of connection.
MODEM CONNECTION FOR DIRECTPLAY
Choose this connection for inter-linking via modem.
When using this type of connection, it is necessary to enter the telephone number, which is dialled when connection is being established. If you leave the column DATA blank, it signifies that you are waiting for a call from the other participant. Only two players can be connected when using this type of connection.
SERIAL CONNECTION FOR DIRECTPLAY
Choose this connection when using a serial cable to connect two computers. With this type of connection, no data are entered, but before the computer establishes connection, a Windows window appears in which it is necessary to set the parameters of connection. It is necessary to set identical parameters on both computers. This type of connection also allows only two players participating.
IPX CONNECTION FOR DIRECTPLAY
This connection is available on LAN. It is not necessary to pre-set any parameters. Maximum number of players (4) can be connected.
INTERNET TCP/IP CONNECTION FOR DIRECTPLAY
This connection is used for playing the game through Internet. If you do not enter any parameter, this connection will work also on LAN. If you wish to play through Internet, it is necessary to set up the Internet address and the port. This connection allows participation of all (4) players.
╖ If there are any other types of connections installed in the computer, these will automatically appear in selection of menus. It will be necessary to set up some parameters when using certain types; other types operate without parameters.
Network game works on principle of founder (HOST) and logged-in players (JOIN). Before starting the game by pressing button CONNECT, it is necessary to set correctly all parameters (see previous chapter).
The founder starts the game by selecting items CONNECT and HOST GAME in menu. After selecting, "Waiting for other players" message appears. At this moment, the players on other computers select items CONNECT and JOIN (HOST NAME). As soon as at least one player logs in, command "Start the game" appears on the HOST computer and the player on HOST computer can start the network game. When more players are expected to join in the game, the HOST player has to wait until the names of all players wishing to play appear on the list. Once the HOST started the network game by entering "Start the game", it becomes impossible for other players to join in.
╖ Bear in mind that maximum of 4 players can participate in a game (1 HOST a 3xJOIN)
╖ If item JOIN (HOST NAME) fails to appear on JOIN computers after the HOST has started item HOST GAME, and "Waiting for other players" is displayed on the screen, please check the setting of the network.
╖ If JOIN players executed item JOIN (HOST NAME), and the name of their computer failed to appear in the list on HOST computer, please check the setting of the network.
NETWORK GAME RULES:
-------------------
After connection of all computers participating in the game has been established, it is possible to commence playing the game. The game is controlled by the player on HOST computer. He is the one who chooses campaigns and missions to be played. In the same way, he also chooses the men and equipment for campaigns, as well as men and equipment for missions. The selection is done by the mouse of the HOST computer but the menu is displayed also on screens of other players' computers. However, they are unable to participate in selecting the items. Accessibility of missions and campaigns is imported from profile files of the HOST player, which he has chosen at the beginning. Profile files from single player game may be used, just as the profile files with results achieved in network game may be used in the single player game. If the network-game players wish to continue in the network game where they had left off the previous game, the same HOST computer has to start the game with the same profile file. After choosing the mission, the men and equipment, the Host player can start the actual play.
╖ Arrange beforehand with the HOST player, which mission you would like to play, and what equipment you would like to use.
╖ If, during the period of HOST player's setting the parameters, you press any key with a letter, you will be able to type messages, which you can then send to all logged-in computers by pressing ENTER.
After starting the mission, the computer will allocate to players the characters taking part in mission. In case that you have agreed beforehand on a different distribution of characters to the one the computer has chosen, you can switch over into any character of your choice. This is achieved by the usual method, as is done in the single player game. However, two players cannot control the same character. Should two players attempt to do so, the name of the player already in control of that particular character appears above its head. In case when less than maximum number of players participate in the game, computer controls the soldiers left available, and you can switch over into them whenever you wish.
╖ Whenever any one of players calls map or menu into effect and thus interrupts the playing, the game is interrupted for all participating players.
╖ When aiming at your fellow-fighter while using ancillary sights, the sights turn red and soldier's name appears above him.
╖ If your character has been killed and there is no other available one in the game (controlled by the computer), you can become a spectator and watch passively actions taken by other players.
╖ Missions end with failure under the same conditions as in the single player mode.
╖ At any time during mission, it is possible to send messages to other players after pressing F4.
