  1. CD Label template files for PC:
  2.  
  3. GENERAL NOTES: 
  4.  
  5.      These templates are designed for ease of use with most 
  6. major art packages.  Users should familiarise themselves with
  7. these packages and have their User's guides handy.
  8.  
  9.       When using graphic images that are meant to cover the
  10. entire label, it is best to extend the image beyond the actual
  11. border of the label, or "bleed" the image.  This will ensure 
  12. proper coverage. 
  13.  
  14.     When printing from these templates, it may be necessary
  15. to change the portrait/landscape setting in "page setup" to 
  16. accomodate your printer.
  17.  
  18.      Templates are provided for A4 sizes for the following 
  19. software packages.  A full description of how to use them 
  20. is provided below:

  22. --Illustrator versions 3, 5 and 6;

  51. HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN TEMPLATES
  52.  
  53.      The templates supplied are designed for use with most 
  54. laser and inkjet printers. Due to the mechanical nature of
  55. printers it is difficult to gurantee that all the templates
  56. will align perfectly on the first try.  It may be necessary
  57. to adjust the image in your design document to ensure proper
  58. alignment.
  59.  
  60.      If you wish to create your own template or modify a 
  61. template, the following information will be 
  62. useful. 
  63.  
  64.      Set the page/paper size to landscape A4 or US Letter 
  65. to match that of your label stock then draw:
  66.  
  67. Front label for CD jewel case
  68.      Box 118mm wide x 45mm deep at a position 24.5mm across 
  69. and 10mm down from the top left corner of the page. 
  70. (15.7mm & 13mm for US Letter size).

  75.      Box 118mm wide x 7mm deep at a position 24.5mm across 
  76. and 65mm down from the top left corner of the page.

  82.      Outer circle 118mm diameter & inner circle 41mm diameter 
  83. whose centres are at a position 83.5mm across and 141mm down 
  84. from the top left corner of the page. 
  85. (74.7mm & 144mm for US Letter size).

  87.      Both labels are then repeated with the positional 
  88. dimensions relative to the bottom right hand corner of the page.

  92. NOTES ABOUT THE TEMPLATES PROVIDED

  99. They do not print and can not be edited.  Simply place your artwork
  100. within the guidelines and print.  Due to some changes to 
  101. Illustrator 6 you may experience some difficulty aligning final prints. 
  102. Please consult your manual.

  110.     The guide lines will not print and neither can they be 
  111. edited.  You may use the text fields provided or place your
  112. own text and graphics objects within the guide lines.

  114.      If when printing the image area is offset to the label, 
  115. then adjust the top and/or left measurements in the Image 
  116. Position & Size field. This is found under the Layout section
  117.  of Options in the Print Dialogue Box.

  125.      The Freehand templates contain guide lines that are on a 
  126. separate layer.  They do not print and can not be edited.  
  127. Simply place your artwork within the guidelines and print.

  135.      The Pagemaker templates contain guide lines that are on a 
  136. separate layer.  They do not print.  Simply place your artwork 
  137. within the guidelines and print.

  142. A4      --   PHOTOA4.PSD      
  143. Letter  --   PHOTOLET.PSD

  145.      This template may be opened in any version that supports 
  146. layers.  This template is provided with guidelines on one layer
  147. and a mask on another layer.  The guide lines indicate the 
  148. edges of the labels, while the mask allows for image bleeding.  
  149. The guide lines must be deleted before printing.
  150.  
  151.      To see the mask,  open the "layers pallet" by selecting 
  152. "windows", "pallets", "show layers".  Switch to "channels" and
  153. click on the space to the left of "work layer mask". This will 
  154. show the mask.
  155.  
  156.      YOU MUST DELETE THE GUIDE LINES BEFORE PRINTING. 
  157. On the layers pallet, select "guides - "delete before printing" layer 
  158. by clicking anywhere on that line.  Then click on the arrow 
  159. pointing to the right on the upper right side of the layer 
  160. pallet and select delete layer.
  161.  
  162.      NOTE: When placing work in the work layer, ensure that 
  163. The blank page (left thumbnail) on the work layer (second line
  164.  of the layers pallet) is selected, not the label layout 
  165. thumbnail on the right or you risk modifying the mask.

  173.      The guide is locked and can not be edited.  Simply place 
  174. your text and graphics within the guides and print.

  178. --MSWord for Windows

  180. Letter  --   WORDLET.DOC

  182.      The label area is shown by guide lines, which under 
  183. default settings will not be visible against the white page. 
  184. To view the actual label area, from the 'Tools' menu select 
  185. 'Options', then select 'General' and check 'Blue Background, 
  186. White Text'.  The guide lines will not be printed.  Remember
  187. to reset the 'Options' after printing your labels.

  189.      The position of all the objects are relative to the page 
  190. margins. If the image area is slightly offset to the label when 
  191. printing then adjust the margins accordingly under 'Page Setup'
  192.  until they are aligned.

  194.      To include graphics, import your image and then enclose 
  195. it in a frame by selecting the graphic in Word document and 
  196. then selecting 'insert' 'frame' from the menu options.  You may 
  197. then place the graphic frame anywhere on the document.
