Version 1.2 - Shareware Release
CD Wave Editor
--------------
This program was designed to aid in CD-Recordable mastering. I always spent
way too much time in audio editors to record and split my audio data. Getting
'live' CDs was a real hell, as i had to cut at 2352 byte limits, which no
software i knew of would let me automate. I made several compilations with this
program from both tape and vinyl. If you wish to contact me, you can find my
address below.
What's new - version history
----------------------------
1.2 - DAO cue sheet "loading" fixed
- Recording in seperate thread
1.1 - Support for non-redbook audio.
1.01 - Fixed bug: Saved tracks with wrong offset, resulted in first track
duplicating header inside WAV data.
1.00 - First release as shareware
- Added color config and button style setup
- DAO Cue sheet save / load
How does it work - step by step guide
-------------------------------------
This is how you can make a life CD recording with track indices. It's
also in the online help.
Step 1:
Open a wave file, or record a new one with the red Record button.
Step 2:
Make your splits by clicking on the top box, set the marker, and press the
Split button to add another split. Right click on the track list at the
bottom to delete tracks.
Step 3:
If you want, you can rename the split track names (same as Explorer, by
clicking on it a second time after a short delay). Each track has a checkbox.
If you check it, the track will be saved when pressing the save button,
otherwise the track is 'deleted'. You can use this for example to trim of
silences from the beginning and end of the data.
Step 4:
Press Save Location to select a directory to put your resulting split WAV files.
Step 5:
Press Save to save your work into several nicely split WAV files.
Display:
--------
The waveform display shows the MAX level reached any sample of left and right
channels. If the wave hits the floor or ceiling, it may be clipping. This info
is loaded into RAM memory while openening a wave file. The amount of RAM
allocated is 4x(nr of samples)/2352 (roughly the filesize divided by 2352).
While recording, three LEDs show up. The green indicates that the volume level
is above 10%. The yellow indicates the level is above 90%. The red LED will
light if the waveform is clipped. The red light stays on until you click on
it. For best results, the yellow light should flash on loud passages, but the
red one should never be enabled. Clipping is audible as distortion.
Features:
---------
- Records directly into a WAV file, no TEMP space needed.
- Double speed playback for quick search.
- Easy track splitting, automatically on 2352 byte borders.
- Clipping detection & display.
- Graphic waveform display during recording.
- Auto stop after timeout or silence.
- Auto splitting on pauses
- Write DAO compatible 'cue' sheets (not tested yet!)
To be expected soon:
--------------------
- Configurable playback speed (up to 16x? You name it!)
- Levels of zoom on graphic waveform display
- Better file location control
- Fade in/out, volume adjust, DC adjust
- ??? Suggestions still welcome
Legal stuff
-----------
This program is now being released as Shareware. This means you can use it, copy it
and distribute it, provided that:
1. You do not make any modifications to the software or the documentation.
2. You do not use it for commercial purposes. This includes putting it on
a disk and charging people money for it, and making commercial audio productions
with this program.
3. After a 31-day trial period, you either have to discontinue using it or register.
The registration fee is $10 (or a local equivalent).
Contacting me
-------------
You can contact me by sending e-mail or regular snail mail to the address below.
You can write to me in Dutch, English or German (pick any you like), you'll get
a reply in either Dutch or English (or what i can consider to be English...).
If you want to send 'donations' or registration forms to encourage me to write more
of this software, i suggest sending $10 to my home address. Please put CASH into
the envelope. I have to pay the bank about $15 to cash in a foreign cheque, so it's
no use sending me cheques, as it will usually cost me more to cash it than the
amount on it says, the only one getting richer of it will be my bank. So once again
DO NOT SEND CHEQUES, the only use i have for them is for papering my bedroom wall.
Besides, what's easier than slipping a $10 bill into an envelope?
