WHAT'S NEW IN WEBSEEKER 3.3
---------------------------
NEW SEARCH ENGINES
Now WebSeeker includes the WhatUSeek and Northern Light
search engines.
SEARCH PRE-FILTER
You can specify text strings that should automatically disqualify a
search result, e.g. MLM, XXX, Make Money Fast, etc.
BROWSER BUTTONS
When installing WebSeeker you know have the option of placing a button
on the toolbar of your web browser. You can quickly launch WebSeeker
from this button. This feature requires Netscape Navigator version 4
or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.
INCREASED PROXY/FIREWALL COMPATIBILITY
WebSeeker now supports an increased range of proxy servers and
firewalls including SOCKS, CERN, and more. Proxy servers and firewalls
requiring passwords are also supported.
SYSTEM SOUNDS
I am WebSeeker, hear me roar! Many of WebSeeker's actions can now be
tied to sound files for a multimedia experience. Have fun!

WEBSEEKER 3.3 RELEASE NOTES
---------------------------
INTERNET CONNECTION
In order for WebSeeker 3.3 to search the Internet, a 32-bit Winsock
must be running.
To test for a 32-bit Winsock, try to run your favorite 32-bit Web
Browser, e.g. Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer.
If your Web Browser won't run, you need to work on your Internet
connection until it does.
WINDOWS 95 DIAL-UP NETWORKING CONNECTION - Make sure that you have
dialed in and your Dial-Up Connection is already running before you
launch WebSeeker.
ONLINE SERVICES -
WebSeeker 3.3 will only work with the 32-bit Version 3.0 of America
Online (AOL).
In order to use WebSeeker 3.3 with CompuServe, you will need to set up
a Windows 95 Dial-Up Networking Connection to CompuServe. You will
also need to obtain a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape
Navigator to view your search results. CompuServe should provide you
with instructions to do this.
WebSeeker 3.3 will work with Microsoft Network (MSN).
Other types of Internet Services should be configured to use a Windows
95 Dial-Up Networking Connection. Instructions on how to do this
should be provided by your Internet Service Provider.
------------------------------
KNOWN PROBLEMS AND LIMITATIONS
------------------------------
WINDOWS NT 3.51 - After installing WebSeeker you may need to add quotes
around the command-line in the Program Manager Item. Wherever you are
instructed to right click, you must double-right click instead of
single-right click.
PROXY SERVER - If your copy of WebSeeker requires you to send in your
registration information before you can run it and you use a proxy
server you will need to set the proxy server information in the
WEBSKR32.INI file. The file is located in the WebSeeker directory and
can be edited with NOTEPAD. You will need to add or edit the following
section, where Server is the IP address for your proxy server and Port
the port number. If you do not know your proxy server settings,
contact your system administrator.
[Proxy]
Server=236.39.248.12
Port=80
SCHEDULING UNATTENDED SEARCHES - Scheduling unattended searches will
only function with a Windows 95 Dial-Up Networking Connection or with
a LAN Internet Connection that do not require you to enter your name
and/or password every time. Schedule will also work with a T1 or
similar type of direct connectivity.
LAUNCH WEBSEEKER FROM INTERNET EXPLORER - If you have selected the
option to have Internet Explorer 3 launch WebSeeker from the Search
button, and you uninstall WebSeeker, Internet Explorer still tries to
launch WebSeeker from the Search button. To return to Internet
ExplorerÆs search default search settings you must do the following:
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- Select View, Options. The Options dialog box appears.
- Select the Navigation tab.
- From the Page drop down list, select "Search Page".
- Click the Use Default button.
- Click OK. Internet ExplorerÆs default settings have been restored.
Now that you are ready to start WebSeeker 3.3, click
START/FIND/ON THE INTERNET... on the Windows 95 Taskbar.
Happy searching!
