  8. On this diskette you will find two self extracting files (OS2PRO4.EXE and
  9. OS2PRO8.EXE).  These files can be extracted by the following set of 
  10. commands:
  11.  
  12. 1. Make a directory on your OS/2 boot volume called ORCHID (i.e. MD\ORCHID).
  13.  
  14. 2. Change directory on your OS/2 boot volume to ORCHID (i.e. CD\ORCHID).
  15.  
  16. 3. Type the following line at the command prompt:
  17.  
  18.                A:os2pro#.EXE
  19.  
  20. Note: Replace "#" with a 4 for 16 color driver or an 8 for 256 color
  21. drivers.
  22.  
  23. The following is the list of drivers provided in these self extracting
  24. files.
  25.  
  26. OS2PRO4.EXE will expand to:
  27.                 1024x16.DLL
  28.                  800x16.DLL
  29.  
  30. OS2PRO8.EXE will expand to:
  31.                 1024x256.DLL
  32.                  800x256.DLL
  33.                  640x256.DLL
  34.  
  35. To Install:
  36. -----------

  38. If OS/2 version 2.0 is already installed on your system, skip to step 3.
  39.  
  40. 1. Install OS/2 version 2.0 on the system.
  41.  
  42. 2. Extract and copy the ProDesigner II Series drivers over to the OS/2 
  43. boot volume, by following the three steps listed above.
  44.  
  45. 3. File and Path verification:
  46.  
  47. Before starting, the file VSVGA.SYS shipped in the shrink-wrapped
  48. OS/2 version 2.0 box should be updated with a later one available from 
  49. CompuServe, CIS:IBMOS2, lib 10, VSVGA.ZIP.  The unzipped VSVGA.SYS file 
  50. should be 65016 bytes in size and dated 4/20/92.  Do not use the 3/30/92 
  51. version as it will not work with all versions of the ProDesigner II 
  52. Series cards.  
  53.  
  54. Note: The VSVGA.ZIP file is also available on the Orchid Technology's 
  55. Technical Support BBS under the OS2 directory.
  56.  
  57. Configure the card to supply vertical refresh rates no higher than 60Hz 
  58. in any Super VGA mode.  Refresh rates above 60Hz are not supported in this 
  59. version of OS/2.  The dip switch information for your card is located in 
  60. your ProDesigner IIs Series Manual.
  61.  
  62. If OS/2 was installed with a ProDesigner IIs Series card present in the
  63. system, skip to step 4.
  64.  
  65. Using a text editor, add the following lines to the CONFIG.SYS file. 
  66.  
  67.     SET VIDEO_DEVICES=VIO_VGA
  68.     SET VIO_VGA=DEVICE(BVHVGA,BVHSVGA)
  69.     DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VSVGA.SYS
  70.  
  71. Remove or comment out the following lines: 
  72.  
  73.     SET VIO_VGA=DEVICE(BVHVGA)
  74.     DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VVGA.SYS
  75.  
  76. Using OS/2 UNPACK.EXE (consult the OS/2 command reference for information
  77. on how to use UNPACK) unpack and copy the following files.
  78.  
  79.     /OS2/DLL/BVHVGA.DLL
  80.     /OS2/DLL/BVHSVGA.DLL
  81.     /OS2/SVGA.EXE
  82.     /OS2/MDOS/VSVGA.SYS   (the updated one!)
  83.  
  84. (UNPACK has a "show" command line switch by which a search can be performed
  85. on the packed files on the OS/2 Installation Diskettes to locate the above
  86. files).
  87.  
  88. 4. Change directory to the ORCHID subdirectory (i.e. CD\ORCHID)
  89.  
  90. 5. Copy one of the drivers over the DISPLAY.DLL file, for example:
  91.  
  92.     copy /b a:1024x16.dll display.dll
  93.  
  94. 6. Use a text editor and modify the LIBPATH statement in the OS/2 2.0
  95. CONFIG.SYS to put the ORCHID subdirectory in the LIBPATH. It should be
  96. placed before any other LIBPATH entries.

  98. As an example:

  100.   LIBPATH=.;C:\123G;C:\OS2\DLL;C:\OS2\MDOS;C:\;C:\OS2\APPS\DLL;
  101.  
  102. should be changed to
  103.  
  104.   LIBPATH=c:\ORCHID;.;C:\123G;C:\OS2\DLL;C:\OS2\MDOS;C:\;C:\OS2\APPS\DLL;

  107. 7. Change to the \OS2 subdirectory and run SVGA.EXE using the command line
  108. parameter ON (cd\OS2). 
  109.

  112. This results in the creation, in the current subdirectory (\OS2), of a video
  113. parameter file called SVGADATA.PMI. Please be sure this file exists before
  114. continuing. 
  115.  
  116. 8. Reboot the system.
  117.  
  118.  
  119. Known Problems:
  120. ---------------
  121.  
  122. The hot spot under the 800x600x256 color driver is very small, so under some
  123. applications, like chess, it might be difficult to pick up one of the pieces.
  124.  
  125. When using the High Performance hard disk option with some hard disk
  126. controllers and our drivers, the system will lock up.  We recommend using the
  127. FAT hard disk option on all non-IBM PS/2 systems.
  128.  
  129. When using the Klondike game, some of the card back's colors do not appear
  130. correctly (light blue rather than dark blue).

  134. Suggestions, hints, help & problem reporting:
  135. ---------------------------------------------
  136.  
  137. Upon rebooting, in some cases, some or all ICONs on the desktop or in a
  138. window may not be visible. Use the scroll bars at the right and bottom edges 
  139. of the window to bring the ICONs into view. Or, in a window, press the right
  140. mouse button, choose arrange by selecting it using the left mouse button.
  141. This action will bring the out of sight ICONs into view. 
  142.  
  143. Some application screens may not be completely visible. Press <Ctrl><Esc>
  144. to bring up the task list window. Using the left mouse button, highlight the
  145. application name, then use the right mouse button to bring up a menu. From
  146. this menu select Tile or Cascade and the full screen of the application will
  147. then be visible.
  148.  
  149. This version is the second release of the driver. While every effort has been
  150. made to insure it is error free, no guanrantee is made that this is the
  151. case. As problems are found and fixed, which result in a later version of the
  152. driver, it will be uploaded to the Orchid BBS or CompuServe as soon as 
  153. possible.

  155. If you wish to report a problem you may do so by generating a text file with
  156. all pertinent information:

  159.     (CPU, BIOS version, systemboard memory, other installed hardware)

  161.     ProDesigner II adapter description
  162.     (include BIOS version, hardware revision level, switch [ISA], 
  163.     configuration register [EISA], or POS settings [Micro Channel],
  164.     resolution of driver being used, dat & time stamp of driver)

  166.     OS/2 configuration
  167.     (copy of CONFIG.SYS file)
  168.  
  169.     System or application software in use when problem symptoms appeared
  170.     (name, version, configuration)
