  5. These notes contain details of the updates made from versions 
  6. 95.0 and 95.1. They cover:
  7.  
  8. 1:   The new Set Wizard which creates Options sets automatically
  9.  
  10. 2:   Saving of the multi-volume (span discs) wipe and format functions
  11.  
  12. 3:   Deletion of temporary files when zipping to a floppy disc.
  13.  
  14. 4:   Using Option Sets created in previous versions.
  15.  
  16. Note: If you are upgrading from version 4.0 or above, and have created 
  17. Option Sets that you wish to preserve, you MUST read section 4 before
  18. using these Option Sets.

  22. 1:   The new Set Wizard which creates Options sets automatically
  23.  
  24. To ease the process of creating Option or Back-up sets, ZipBack now 
  25. includes a æSet WizardÆ. This will create a new option set, and can 
  26. also place the short-cut icon in Program Manager (or Windows 95 Start 
  27. menu) which allows you to perform the zip or unzip operation with only 
  28. a double-click on the icon, and without starting ZipBack in the normal 
  29. way.

  31. To use Set Wizard, click on the æRun Set WizardÆ button which can be
  32. found in the æOption and Back-up SetsÆ window (click Sets in the main
  33. ZipBack window), or in the æHelp on Option SetsÆ window (click Help 
  34. in the main ZipBack window, then Sets in the Help menu).

  38. 2:   Saving of the multi-volume (span discs) wipe and format functions
  39.  
  40. ZipBack now stores the settings for the selected Span Discs function in 
  41. each option set (including the default INI file). This means that if you
  42. start ZipBack, or select a different option set, the setting for Wipe 
  43. Files from Disc, Format Disc, and Format Disc Low Density (in the dialog 
  44. which appears when you turn Span Discs on) will be set to the same as 
  45. when you last used that set. In previous version it always defaulted to 
  46. Add Files to Existing Files on Disc.

  48. However if Span Discs is turned off in the option set (or in the default 
  49. INI file) as it is loaded the setting returns to Add Files to Existing.

  51. Before a zip is started which will Wipe or Format the disc, a warning 
  52. message is displayed, and the operation can be cancelled. This change 
  53. allows you to create Auto-Run back-up sets which will Wipe or Format 
  54. the target disc automatically.

  58. 3:   Deletion of temporary files when zipping to a floppy disc.

  60. When using the Span Discs option to create files on a floppy disc, a file 
  61. with the same name as that being created is deleted and replaced by the 
  62. new file. You cannot update an existing file when Span Discs is turned 
  63. on. (This is a limitation enforced by the nature of the zip file).

  65. However when Span Discs is turned off an existing file with the same 
  66. name is updated, and new or changed files are added to those existing in 
  67. the zip file (depending on the settings for Update and Add and Freshen 
  68. you specify). The zip process will naturally fail if the new file will 
  69. not fit on one floppy disc, and the original file will already have been 
  70. deleted from the floppy disc.

  72. Normally ZipBack will create the new file in the temporary directory 
  73. on your hard disc before attempting to write it to the floppy (unless 
  74. you have disabled this feature in the Sets/Advanced Configuration 
  75. window). In earlier versions of ZipBack this temporary file was 
  76. automatically deleted if the zip process failed. In the new version you
  77. receive a warning that the operation has failed, and that the new zip
  78. file is still stored in your temporary directory. You can then choose 
  79. whether or not to delete it. It has a name of the form _Zxxxxxx with 
  80. no file extension. You can rename this file so that it has the extension
  81. .ZIP and then work with it in the normal way to retrieve the contents.

  85. 4:   Using Option Sets created in previous versions.
  86.  
  87. If you are upgrading from version 4.0 or above, and have created Option 
  88. Sets that you wish to preserve, you MUST read this section before using 
  89. the old Option Sets.

  91. ZipBack will not automatically recognise Option Sets created with earlier
  92. versions than 95.2, and will return the settings within them to the 
  93. standard ZipBack defaults. However you can force ZipBack to read the Sets,
  94. and use as many of the settings they contain as is practical. The number 
  95. it can use depends on which version you are upgrading from, as the contents
  96. change with each program version.

  98. The Option Set files have an extension .SET and are stored in the program
  99. directory (except in the case of the Network Edition where the location is
  100. specified as a user or temporary directory). They are plain text files, and
  101. can be loaded into any standard text editor such as Windows 3.x NotePad, or 
  102. Windows 95 WordPad.

  104. Load the option set and locate the line that starts with   ZipBackVer=
  105. This should be the first line. Change it to read   ZipBackVer=95.20   and 
  106. save the file in plain text format again.
