  5. Welcome to Monty Python's Complete Waste of Time CD Sampler.

  7. INFORMATION ON THE FULL VERSION OF COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME
  8.  
  9. Monty Python's Complete Waste of Time is an interactive comedy show that
  10. gives you a chance to solve the secret to intergalactic success. Discover 
  11. the secret, and you can win a pentium-based multimedia computer and other
  12. prizes. Enjoy popular skits, songs, screen savers, wallpapers, audio 
  13. clips, desktop icons and other naughty bits. To purchase your own copy of
  14. Complete Waste of Time, visit your local software reseller.

  17. INSTALLING THE COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME SAMPLER

  19. To install the Complete Waste of Time Sampler, select the File menu and 
  20. choose Run from the Program Manager. Type D:\SETUP (if necessary,
  21. replace D: with the letter that represents your CD-ROM drive) 
  22. in the Command Line and press ENTER. Follow the instructions 
  23. given in the installation program.

  25. To start Monty Python's Complete Waste of Time Sampler, double click the 
  26. Monty Python Sampler icon, which was created for you by the installation 
  27. program.

  30. KEYBOARD FUNCTIONS
  31.  
  32. The + and - keys provide a convenient means for raising and lowering
  33. the volume. Some sound boards do not support volume control, so
  34. these keys may not function in all cases.
  35.  
  36. Use the spacebar to abort audio and video sequences.
  37.  
  38. The following key combinations can be used to replace mouse
  39. movements for certain activities and functions.

  45. COMMON PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
  46.  
  47. Problem:
  48.    The program seems to run slow and the video seems choppy in places.
  49.  
  50. Solution:
  51.    As with any program under Windows, the speed and the smoothness 
  52.    of the Monty Python program is dependent on the speed of the hardware 
  53.    that it is running on. Hardware configurations that affect performance 
  54.    are: the amount of memory and the speed of the video card, the processor 
  55.    type, the amount of real memory and the transfer rate of the CD-ROM 
  56.    drive. While the minimum system configuration required to run the Monty 
  57.    Python program is a 486 25 MHz computer with 4 MB of RAM, a video card 
  58.    capable of running 256 colors and a single-speed CD-ROM drive, the 
  59.    recommended system configuration is a 486 33 MHz computer with 8 MB of 
  60.    RAM, a video card with at least 256 colors, and a double-speed CD-ROM 
  61.    drive. You may be able to increase the performance of the program by 
  62.    upgrading one or all of these elements of your computer system, 
  63.    depending on what you already have.

  65. Problem:
  66.    When I try to run the Monty Python Sampler program, I get a "Not enough
  67.    memory" message.
  68.  
  69. Solution:
  70.    On a 4 MB system the Monty Python Sampler program requires 5 to 10 MB of 
  71.    virtual memory. For instructions on setting virtual memory, please 
  72.    consult your Windows documentation.
  73.  
  74. Problem:
  75.   The program does not display properly.
  76.  
  77. Solution:
  78.    Make sure you have an SVGA display running in 640x480 or 
  79.    800x600 mode with 256 colors. Also, make sure that you have
  80.    the proper display driver installed. A display with more colors
  81.    or running at a higher resolution also will work with the Monty
  82.    Python program, although fades between scenes will not be
  83.    as smooth.

  85. Problem:
  86.    The program is working, but you don't hear any sound.
  87.  
  88. Solution:
  89.    Make sure your sound card is installed and working properly.
  90.    You can check the sound from your sound board by using the
  91.    Sound utility in the Control Panel. Choose one of the WAV files
  92.    in the Windows directory and click Test.
  93.  
  94. Problem:
  95.    The sound or video skips during the program.
  96.  
  97. Solution:
  98.    Make sure you have at least 4 MB of RAM. Also, make sure
  99.    that an expanded memory manager (such as EMM386, QEMM or
  100.    386MAX) is not reserving memory that Windows and the Monty
  101.    Python program will need to run correctly.

  103. Problem:
  104.    The sound and video are not synchronized properly.
  105.  
  106. Solution:
  107.    Make sure that you are running the Monty Python Sampler program on a 
  108.    486 25 MHz or better IBM-compatible computer with at least
  109.    4 MB of RAM.

  111. Problem:
  112.   The sound breaks up or has a lot of static.
  113.  
  114. Solution:
  115.    You may need to change the DMA setting on your sound card.
  116.    Please check the documentation for your sound card for the
  117.    proper settings and how to change the settings.

  119. Problem:
  120.    The volume is too low or too high.
  121.  
  122. Solution:
  123.    You can adjust the volume using the + and - keys within the 
  124.    Monty Python program.

  126. Problem:
  127.    The program seems to run extremely slow.
  128.  
  129. Solution:
  130.    Make sure that you have a permanent swap file set up in Windows.
  131.    Please consult your Windows documentation for instructions
  132.    regarding your swap file settings.
