  1. Rz and sz are Unix programs designed to support dial-in XMODEM,
  2. YMODEM, and ZMODEM transfers via the controlling TTY port.
  3.  
  4. The contents of this archive can be uploaded to a remote Unix or
  5. Xenix system by ZCOMM or Professional-YAM using the supplied
  6. zupl.t script.  Connect to your Unix/Xenix system, select an
  7. empty directory, and then give the YAM/ZCOMM command: "source
  8. zupl.t".  This will upload minirb.c, compile it, and then use
  9. minirb to bootstrap upload the rz/sz files.

  11. Once these files are on your Unix system, you can type "make".
  12. The Makefile will list the various systems it knows how to
  13. compile the programs for, and the command to do so (e.g.,
  14. "make bsd").
  15.  
  16. The Makefile is self explanatory; just say "make".
  17.  
  18. Unregistered users can use our support hotline: 900-737-7836 at
  19. $4.69 per minute.  Callers must be 18+ years of age.  Registered
  20. users can obtain free support for problems not involving
  21. terminal servers or third party software using email or the
  22. regular Omen Technology phone number.

  24. Rz and sz work best with comm programs that properly support
  25. ZMODEM command and file AutoDownload (Pro-YAM and ZCOMM).

  27. The "GSZ" shareware program allows ZMODEM file transfers with
  28. DOS comm programs.  GSZ provides a "mini term function" that
  29. supports ZMODEM AutoDownload.  GSZ (part of GSZ.ZIP) and ZCOMM
  30. (ZCOMMEXE.ZIP, ZCOMMDOC.ZIP, ZCOMMHLP.ZIP) are available on
  31. TeleGodzilla and other fine bulletin boards.

  33. This software may be freely used to support file transfer
  34. operations to or from duly licensed Omen Technology products.
  35. This includes DSZ, GSZ, ZCOMM, Professional-YAM and PowerCom.
  36. Institutions desiring to use rz/sz this way should add the
  37. following to the sz compile line: -DCOMPL
  38. Programs based on stolen or public domain ZMODEM materials are
  39. not included.  Use with other commercial or shareware programs
  40. (Crosstalk, Procomm, etc.) REQUIRES REGISTRATION.

  42. Rz ans Sz are Copyrighted shareware programs.  Commercial Use of
  43. these programs is subject to licensing conditions detailed in
  44. the sz.c source code.  "Commercial Use" includes use of this
  45. program to transfer files to/from any commercial or shareware
  46. program not published by Omen Technology INC.  Please print the
  47. "mailer.rz" file, fill out the form and return same with your
  48. registration.

  50. 1.xx and 2.xx versions of rz and sz (April 1988) are Public Domain,
  51. but lack recent enhancements and bug fixes.

  53. The Man pages are formatted for those without Unix nroff.  For
  54. best results, use less(1) (available on comp.sources.misc) as
  55. your manual page reader.  Troff sources for the rz/sz man pages
  56. are included with copies of Unix Professional-YAM.

  59. FTP access is now available at ftp.cs.pdx.edu pub/zmodem
  60. directory.  This account has the latest and greatest selection
  61. of OMEN files available for FTP.  The files in this direcotryy
  62. are uploaded with ZMODEM directly from the Omen home system,
  63. preserving modification dates and file contents.

  65. June 22 1994: sz -e now escapes the all ones character (0xFF).
  66. Sz now understands receiver specified control character
  67. prefixing (ZCOMM/Professional-YAM zmresc string parameter).

  69. Apr 23 1994: Added -DOLD compiler flag for antique SYSV
  70. compilers without a standard /usr/include/stdlib.h header file.
  71. This causes rbsb.c to define char *getenv() etc. instead of
  72. getting these definitons from stdlib.h.  You may have to fiddle
  73. with the declarations in rbsb.c #ifdef OLD to get a clean compile.

  75. Registration and support has been clarified and simplified
  76. (see mailer.rz).

  78. Feb 18 94: A bug in sz that caused constipation at the end of a
  79. file under certain options was corrected.

  81. Jan 27 1994: Minor bugfixes and improvements, documentation
  82. improved.

  84. May 16 1993: More bugfixes, POSIX support.  Tested on SCO Unix,
  85. BSDI 1.0, and SunOS 4.1.2.  Code simplified to avoid certain
  86. compiler brain damage.  (Some complaints about redefinitons
  87. with some POSIX compiles.) (Void and Unsigned Long are required.)

  89. Jan 2 1992: Documentation on the sz -T command has been
  90. improved.  Please use this command and Professional-YAM to
  91. diagnose file transfer problems before calling for support.

  94. VMS systems are now supported with native VMS versions in
  95. RZSZ.TLB.  The rz and sz in RZSZ.TLB support wild cards and
  96. VMS record types.

  98. New for 1989: ZMODEM compression and other compatible
  99. extensions have been added to the rz and sz programs.
  100. Please read the comments in the rz.c and sz.c source code
  101. for licensing information.

  104. In order for us to handle problem reports, we must have the
  105. exact error messages displayed by Professional-YAM.  If
  106. transfers do not work at all, we must have complete results of
  107. the sz -T test procedure!  If you are not using an Omen
  108. Technology product to talk to rz/sz and have not registered
  109. rz/sz, contact the author of the communications program you have
  110. purchased for support.  Some heavily marketed programs do not
  111. properly support the ZMODEM protocol.
