  14. I have a few problems, (well, two, to be exact) I was hoping someone
  15. could help me with...

  17. First the worse and stranger one. After I successfully installed 1.1
  18. thanks to a kernel provided to me by Jukka Marin, I went on to compile
  19. my own, to make it leaner. My problem has always been one of flaky
  20. startup - I'd end up with a blank screen. The problem was fixed when I
  21. commented out all the other graphics options from my config file (such
  22. as GRF_PAL, GRF_A2024, retina-stuff, etc...), so it seems that my
  23. machine has problems with the autoconfig. Anyways. Jukka's kernel
  24. doesn't boot every time, but within reasonable amounts of trying,
  25. reboting, trying, rebooting, trying, rebooting... (in contrast to
  26. GENERIC, which simply refuses to give me an ite despite hundred of
  27. ties...)

  29. But back to my REAL problem: Whenever I start Minicom (next to ls,
  30. probably the most-used program I have... :) it does WEIRD things. It
  31. is as if the the console still gives cooked input to minicom; eg if I
  32. want to quit, I press Amiga(Meta)-Q and all I get is a funny
  33. character on the screen. I press return, and the "Quit without reset?"
  34. message pops on and dissapears. (BTW the modem light is constantly on,
  35. and stuff is being echoed where it shouldn't)

  37. How do I know it's not just a set-up problem on my end? Well, Jukka's
  38. kernel, which being 1.1 as well, works just fine! Minicom runs without
  39. a hitch... Was there a patch I'm not aware of? (I did apply patch001)

  41. BTW, now I'm using cu to dial out... that works...

  43. Second question... X is not behaving (what's new, you ask,
  44. sarcastically :) I didn't uprade all the binaries to 1.1 yet, but did
  45. upgrade Xdaniver and fvwm. Now, when I start X, it simply ignores the
  46. keyboard and mouse... I have to kill the prooceses in order to bring
  47. it back to console... (using a term on the serial port)

  49. Any help I can get on both these problems is greatly appreciated...

  51. Last thing - not a problem, just a suggestion...
  52. Given the extraordinary cost of Amiga ethernet cards, is anyone
  53. currently working on trying to make one of those parallel-port
  54. ethernet adapters for portable PC's work under NetBSD? (Who knows
  55. maybe someone in the i386 port is...)

  57. It seems to me that it would provide a cost effective solution to
  58. those of us that seem unable to locate an Ethernet card.

  60. And yes, I would be willing to work on it, given I could get my hands on
  61. some docs...
