- I am having a couple of problems trying to run NetBSD 1.1 on a 3000T with a
- Picasso II. (other details: 8MB RAM, MFC-III card, 2 x 1GB Seagate drives)
-
- 1. Unable to use the Picasso as a console
-
- The first problem is that the distribution kernel boots into a blank screen.
- I have got round that by building a new kernel which keeps the 'grf_cl' driver
- but does not have the 'ite3' driver. This runs fine using the standard
- Amiga chipset for the console and the startup messages, which are now visible,
- say that the Picasso card has been found and the grf_cl driver loaded.
-
- 2. Unable to set Picasso video modes
-
- I can live without the Picasso as a console but I would really like to use
- it for X Windows. I have installed X11R6 and can successfully run X on the
- Amiga chipset. I understand that I have to use 'grfconfig' to set the video
- modes before I can run X on the Picasso (using the Xcl server). I have
- created a simple 640 x 480 config file (using the console values from the
- 'grf_cl.c' driver source) but when I run grfconfig I get an error message
- "bad monitor definition". My definition file is:
-
- 1 25200000 640 480 4 80 100 94 99 100 481 522 490 498 522
-
- So my questions are:
-
- Does anyone know why the Picasso console driver doesn't work in my setup?
- What is causing the "bad monitor definition" error?
- How do I calculate the definition values for a 1024x768x256 display with
- scan rates of 63.2 KHz and 79 Hz (which is what I run Workbench at)?
- (I have read the grfconfig manual page but it could really do with some
- worked examples for the different graphics cards)
-
- Any help would be appreciated.
