  34. I have been running such a setup (WITH X) for a while - A3000 with
  35. 4 meg fast, 2 meg chip, 20 meg swap.  Two things seemed to make this
  36. go much smoother:
  37. 1. Recompile an Amiga 3000-specific kernel.  Take out EVERYTHING you don't
  38.    need.  I saved about 200 K myself.
  39. 2. While you're doing that, consider putting the swap partition onto a
  40.    different drive.  Note that you can create a swap partition on a
  41.    different drive no problem, but in order to use it, you have to recompile
  42.    the kernel, removing the GENERIC option, and specifying your swap and
  43.    root partitions.
  44. The last point seems to help a lot.  After getting the swap onto a seperate
  45. spindle, my X load time was divided by about 3.  Mind you, it still swaps,
  46. but it swaps FASTER, and the swapping doesn't affect the other drive.
