- With much apprehension, I installed AmigaDOS 3.1 on one of my A3000UX's
- this week. I realize that the ROMs shouldn't affect AMIX, but I was
- expecting AMIX to be incompatible with the new ROMs anyway (Murphy's
- law -- If anything CAN go wrong, it WILL go wrong). Except for some
- initial confusion over which sockets to put the ROMs into (would you
- believe that ROM U180 goes into the socket labeled U180 and ROM U181
- goes into the socket labeled U181?), everything works fine. The system
- will boot into AMIX with no problems at power-up if I skip the boot
- menu or if I select Unix from the boot menu.
-
- One bothersome difference from the 2.04 ROMs is that the screen blinks
- one VERY short blink on power-up instead of the initial progression of
- white, dark gray, and light gray screens. If I hadn't waited through
- 30 seconds of black screen, I wouldn't have known that AMIX was
- booting. At first I thought there was a problem with the ROMs (I
- didn't hold down the mouse buttons).
-
- A nice difference: the new boot menu has an option to test the plug-in
- cards!
-
- I also loaded AMIX onto a new hard drive. The boot and root install
- floppies and the AMIX tape were read without any problems.
-
- The A3000UX has a rev 9/02 motherboard (if I am reading the correct
- location) and has the Buster 11 and DMAC 4 chip upgrades.
-
- Isn't networking wonderful?
