  17. There is a company called Exponential Technology Inc, which is trying to
  18. design a PowerPC clone using BiCmos technology. It is aiming for clock speeds
  19. approx 3 times higher than the fastest pentiums, which would put
  20. it at around the 600 MHz range.

  22. They have been around for about 2 1/2 years, and could ship first product
  23. in early 1997.

  25. BiCmos can operate at the claimed frequencies, but uptil now problems in
  26. packaging, cooling, and ability to fabricate have prevented cpus from
  27. successfully being built using this process.

  29. They have been funded by Apple, Itochu, and others.

  36. I would take this company seriously. In the short term they will not
  37. compete directly against Intel, as initially they will probably
  38. be aimed at the high end Workstation market.

  40. They will get support from both IBM and Apple, I don't understand how
  41. they could NOT get support. The PowerPC is otherwise having problems
  42. outperforming Pentiums, which is a large part of its mass attraction.
