- A lot of people are saying that tha AmigaOS is a load of crap compared to UNIX.
-
- Ok, there are a lot of valid points here, but when AmigaOS was designed, they wanted
- a system that could run on a 1985 microcomputer, with less than 1MB of ram.
-
- When you consider the system that it is was designed to run on, AmigaOS is a fast and
- reliable operating system, and multitasking on a system of it's size is quite a feat.
-
- However, times have changed, memory is cheaper, and processors are faster, and also
- MMUs are now (almost) standard.
-
- I think people are saying that it is about time the Amiga has memory protectionin it's
- operating system. In fact full support of an MMU would give a Vitual memory, memory
- protection, and memory sharing that does not suffer from fragmentation.
-
- The only reason UNIX is 'better' than AmigaOS is beaause it was designed for a system
- that was out of the reach of the home user.
-
- However, technology has caught up with UNIX, and It is time that AmigaOS catches up with
- modern technology.
