  14. This posting is directed at people using 4Dos, Rexx, and 
  15. Windows 95, but perhaps also those like myself who have used
  16. and enjoyed using an Amiga in the past.  So please don't flame
  17. me all you Amiga users.

  20. I had a bout of nostalgia today.  I found TakeCommand/32 for 
  21. Windows95 / NT.  It is a command processor for Windows, 
  22. that gives you the power of 4DOS without the DOS window.
  23. The Nostalgia came after I was using it for a few minutes,
  24. it reminded me of the days when I was using an Amiga 1000.
  25. (Long time ago) I used the CLI (Command Line Interface) a lot.
  26. I remember very well the sense of power and control I got from
  27. using the CLI on the Amiga, nothing was impossible.

  29. I remember even better when I bought AREXX for that old Amiga.
  30. It was like christmas morning, finding a great gift, that you
  31. had never thought of before.  Wondering how you go along without
  32. it before.

  34. The reason I am writing this message and cross posting it to 
  35. such diverse groups, is that I want your opinion on the following
  36. idea.

  38. I am seeking input on the idea of combining TakeCommand/32 with
  39. a basic Rexx interpreter.  If I get enough positive feedback
  40. then I could try and convince the developpers that it is a 
  41. worthwhile project.

  43. Here are a list of features that I would like added to 
  44. TakeCommand/32:
  45.  
  46. - A least minimal Rexx capabilities, ala ARexx , with posiblities
  47. of adding more sophisticated functions with an upgrade.  Here
  48. I am thinking of a pared down version of Personal Rexx/32 from
  49. Quercus.
  50.  
  51. - Header files for the GNU C compiler, to let you
  52. target the TakeCommand/32 Shell for porting Unix utilities
  53. etc to Win/95 environment.  What I want to know is if you
  54. consider TakeCommand/32 to be a worthwhile target for 
  55. simple console I/O type applications.  Would need publicly 
  56. exposed API.  (we could almost do away with the DOS windows.

  58. - Possibility of having high quality (ie 16 bit or better)
  59. graphics displayed in the console window ... a la Mathematica
  60. notebooks, i.e. scrollable and retreivable simply by scrolling
  61. back with slider.

  63. Here is a suggestion for the Rexx interpreter:

  65. - Make it as reliable, as easy to use and as flexible as
  66. the ARexx interpreter was for the Amiga.

  68. This whole package I would be willing to purchase at about
  69. $200.00 U.S.  But only if a got most of the above mentionned
  70. features.
