- On or around Wed, 13 Mar 96, Adam Atkinson is alledged to have muttered
- something along the lines of -
-
- AA> >IMHO, NewIcons suck - they look so cheap, tacky, plasticy and toy-like.
- AA>
- AA> >I much prefer MagicWB - makes my Amigas look like 'proper' expensive
- AA> >workstations!
- AA>
- AA> You're missing the point. We're not talking about the icons present in the
- AA> Newicons package, but the newicons PATCH, which allows icons to have as
- AA> many colours as you like, and makes the system use shareable pens for them.
- AA> This is clearly a win. If you want, use "MWB2NI" to turn your MWB icons
- AA> into NewIcons format and then you can have MWB icons AND do anything you
- AA> like to your palette.
-
- OK. This is a genuine query here.
-
- Just what exactly does the newicons patch do?
-
- The reason I ask is that I have spent the weekend trying it out and could
- find no difference (apart from those awful NewIcon icons!).
-
- I tried different numbers of colours for my screen, different full-colour
- backdrops, etc, and there was absolutely no visible difference.
-
- Now, there must be SOMETHING that it does, so my question is, just what would
- using the NI patch let me do that I cannot already do? (Please try to be
- specific, rather than "do anythis to your pallete" - I want to understand just
- what relevance and advantages the NI hack could offer - if it IS useful, then
- I would consider using it but so far, I cannot see any benefit).
-
- I am serious about this question, BTW.
