  15. I'm having a few problems programming the serial.device, and I was 
  16. wondering if anyone would know the answers to these questions:

  18.     1) Is there any way of checking how many bytes are in
  19.            the serial buffer before reading from it?
  20.            I tried using CheckIO(), but I'm not sure its for this purpose.

  22.     2) I need to turn off CTS/RTS handshaking, is there a
  23.            way of doing it through the operating system?
