- The U.S. version of GSM is called PCS 1900 (sometimes DCS 1900). There are
- currently networks in operation or being tested in the D.C./Baltimore area
- and Hawaii, and several service providers have announced support in other

- PCS 1900's protocol is mostly the same as GSM but there are some differences.
- PCS 1900 does have SMS. As far as what other GSM features will be supported,
- that is mostly up to what the providers here want.
