  24. The U.S. version of GSM is called PCS 1900 (sometimes DCS 1900).  There are
  25. currently networks in operation or being tested in the D.C./Baltimore area
  26. and Hawaii, and several service providers have announced support in other
  27. areas.

  29. PCS 1900's protocol is mostly the same as GSM but there are some differences.
  30. PCS 1900 does have SMS.  As far as what other GSM features will be supported,
  31. that is mostly up to what the providers here want.

  33. The 1800 MHz GSM band is PCN 1800 (DCS 1800), used in Europe.
