- I hadn't thought of that. The gfx-card is definitely not the problem though

- So do you know the exact nature of the problem? I mean, the serial bus should
- easily be able to cope with the small amount of data needed to get a 50 Hz
- mouse update.

-
- Exactly, it is absolutely no miracle that 2x2 screens can be faster on some of
- the slower machines than 1x1 on fast machines.

-
- Quite sad yes. But given the current situation there is little which can be
- done about it (there aren't any cheap upgrade paths). I have good hope though
- that going to PPC will atleast close the gap with the clones for a while. How
- long this will last however depends on how upgradeable the low-end machines
- will be. If they aren't upgradeable they will drag the entire platform down to
- their level, which is a bad thing for any platform.

-
- Well, this is more an Amiga specific problem, not a problem of Planar. Still I
- agree that we should move away from planar, even if it was just so we can use
- the cheap PCI gfx-cards available. ChipRAM is nice, but too restrictive. AT
- should atleast provide a way to swap out Chip to Fast. I fear however that
- this solution will always be slower and more expensive than having dedicated
- gfx-ram on a gfx-card.

-
- TBK> Hmm.. This is because of chipram, or? The processor is capable

-
- The problem is ChipRAM yes, the 68060/50 should be able to handle DOOM at 30-40
- FPS easily. Using a gfx-card would be quite a performance increase, that is if
- it is a memory mapped Zorro III card.
