Before You Install Software Installer
-------------------------------------
Software Requirements
---------------------
- IBM Operating System/2(*) (OS/2) Version 2.11 or Warp 3.0.
- IBM Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 Version 2.11 or Warp 3.0.
NOTE:
- If the resource compiler (RC.EXE) is installed with the
version of OS/2 you are using, the toolkit is only
required if you:
- Create application exits that must be compiled
- Change the online help and must use the IPFC.EXE compiler
- Compile the EPFIHOOK.DLL to customize directory processing.
If the resource compiler is installed and you do not do
these tasks for your installation, you can disregard any
notices about requiring the toolkit that you receive
during the rename process.
- Users of your product do not need the toolkit on their systems
to install your products.
- To install from an AS/400 host system, you need IBM PC Support/400
(Program Number 5738-PC1) Version 2 Release 2.
- To install from a VM, MVS, or VSE host system, you need IBM Extended
Services for OS/2 with Communications Manager or Communication
Manager/2 installed.
Hardware Requirements
---------------------
- A personal computer that runs OS/2 Version 2.11 or Warp 3.0
- 15 MB of fixed disk space above that required by OS/2.
This includes .7 MB for each national language version installed
and approximately 1.4 MB for a temporary copy of Software Installer
that is removed after installation.
- .5 MB of memory above that required by OS/2
- 2-button mouse or other pointing device

Installing Software Installer
-----------------------------
From a Diskette Drive
---------------------
1. Insert Diskette 1 into a drive. In this example, the A
drive is used.
2. Type the following an the OS/2 command prompt:
A:\INSTALL
3. Press Enter.
4. Follow the on-screen prompts.
From a Local Area Network Server
--------------------------------
If you have purchased multiple licenses of Software Installer, consider
placing it on a LAN server for easier access. To do this, follow these
steps:
1. Create a directory on the LAN server to store the Software Installer
files. For example:
MKDIR J:\INSTALL2
2. Copy each Software Installer diskette into this directory. You can
do this using the OS/2 XCOPY command. For example:
XCOPY A:* J:\INSTALL2 /S
3. Give all licensed users access to the LAN drive you copied the
diskettes into (in this example, the J drive).
After these steps are complete, users with access to the LAN drive can
access the alias drive and directory and install Software Installer by
typing:
INSTALL
After following the installation dialog with Software Installer,
the LAN users are ready to use Software Installer on their workstations.
