9/7/98 Update Note for FixPak 8 for Warp4:
This has been 'fixed' to work with fp8, which REQUIRES yet another
NEW fixtool: version 1.39 !
Note that IBM does NOT say 1.38 won't work ... but 1.37 definitely
will NOT work correctly, although you might get a system that
appears to work ok. Prob's will arise at the subsequent fixpak.
Use this 'kit' to apply the fixpak from a PM session on a normally-
booted system. Do NOT use it for any CID install !! See the fixpak 8's
'fixt139.exe' for instructions on those approaches.
All i can say is that it appears to work fine for me, No testing was
done, but a post-install using FIX.CMD yielded the proper
SYSLEVEL.FPK data. THE CAUTIONARY NOTES BELOW STILL APPLY, IF NOT
MORE-SO!
"Only a FOOL would apply a fixpak without a backkup copy that has been
actually CONFIRMED to be re-installable !!!
******************
Notes related to the 1.38 version ..reprinted here for convenience.:
The 1.39 version was created in the same way:
Yes... this worked for me.. maybe for you ..
BUT... i echew any and ALL responsibility for what might happen to your
system.
I gaurantee only that you are reading this document now .. NO OTHER warranties
are either expressed or implied!
Here's what this is:
The 'old' FASTKICK.RAR is based on the 'CSF' v. 1.37
Now comes along Warp 4's Fixpak 7 which changes things:
eg: the service.exe does things differently!! Included is it's
writing to the SYSLEVEL.* files
Once you use FixPak 7's CSF ver. 1.38b you may NO LONGER USE
any PREVIOUS CSF version! and this seems to be a good thing. ;)
(btw, one obtains the new csf version from the same dir on
service.boulder.com that contains FP7 . It's called: fixt138b.exe
and is self-extracting.
FastKick.rar (1.37) was constructed using the old service.exe , etc.
So what I did was to unzip the OLD FASTKICK.RAR into a dir that contained
ONLY the files that result from running the new fixt138b BUT NOT ALLOWING
THE OVERWRITING OF ANY OF THEM , and then removing the files/programs that
are useless to the point of fastkick.rar: eg, FSERVICE.EXE
So what you find in this package are the prog's from the new CSF 1.38b and
the other files that were part of FastKick.rar
Running FIX.CMD worked on my system, but it may totally grind yours into
usless dust as well as irradiate your whole family ..soooo...
only a TOTAL FOOL would run this without haveing a VERIFIED-THAT-IT-WORKS
BACKUP OF YOUR ENTIRE SYSTEM.
'nuff said.

My thanks to Dmitry Niqiforoff

who was the author of fastkick.rar .. and I hope he forgives
me for this wanton desparate act of pilferage.
