  20. 1. Installation
  21.  
  22. Unzip the archive file (ZIP file) into any temporary directory.
  23.  
  24.   Note:  You may use Info-ZIP's UNZIP.EXE or PKWare's PKZIP
  25.  
  26. Start INSTALL.EXE to install Virus Check Pro.
  27.  
  28. When asked, tell the installation program directory where Virus Check 
  29. Pro should be installed. If you already have a registration key at 
  30. this time, please insert it in the registration key field.
  31.  
  32.   Note:  If you don't enter a key, the software will be installed as
  33.          limited shareware version which cease to function run after
  34.          the evaluation period of 30 days.
  35.          
  36.          The Limited Shareware Version is fully functional.  No 
  37.          features have been disabled so you can learn the full power 
  38.          of Virus Scan Pro.
  39.  
  40. The installation program copies all required files into the 
  41. installation directory and will create a program object on your
  42. workplace shell's desktop.
  43.  
  44. After installation, Virus Check Pro is ready to run. 
  45.  
  46. Start Virus Scan Pro with a double click on the program object.

  49. 2. Limited Shareware Version 
  50.  
  51. The limited shareware version expires a month after installation. If 
  52. you want to use Virus Check Pro after this free evaluation period, 
  53. you must register (See 5. Registration for details about
  54. registration). You may not use Virus Check Pro after the one month
  55. evaluation period unless you register the program!
  56.  
  57. If Virus Check Pro is running in limited shareware mode, "limited
  58. shareware" appears in the title bar of the main program window.  The
  59. software is fully functional.

  62. 3. Registered Version
  63.  
  64. After registration you will receive a personal registration key. To 
  65. get Virus Check Pro to work in registered version mode, you will need 
  66. to insert your personal registration key in one of the following two
  67. ways:
  68.  
  69. - If Virus Check Pro already installed, select "Help", "About" and 
  70.   push the button "registration" in the "About" window.  Insert your
  71.   personal registration key in the field which appears in this window
  72.   and push the "Save" button. Your copy of Virus Check Pro now is 
  73.   registered. Please restart the program.

  75. - If Virus Check Pro isn't already installed, just enter your 
  76.   personal registration key in the main window of the installation 
  77.   program.
  78.   
  79.   Note:  The registration key is made up of your registration name 
  80.          plus a numeric value.  You must enter both, with a single
  81.          space between, in order to register the program.

  83. If your copy of Virus Check Pro is running in registered version 
  84. mode, your registration name will appear in the title bar of the main 
  85. program window.

  88. 4. Using Virus Check Pro
  89.  
  90. Virus Check Pro is a unique "front end" for the most popular native 
  91. OS/2 anti-virus tools. It supports:
  92.  
  93. - IBM AntiVirus
  94. - Sophos Sweep
  95. - McAfee VirusScan
  96. - Norman Virus-Control
  97. - Dr. Solomon's Anti-Virus Toolkit
  98. - H&BEDV Antivir/2
  99.  
  100. Virus Check Pro allows to scan file and folder objects just by drag 
  101. and drop.
  102.  
  103. To use Virus Check Pro, you must first configure it.
  104.  
  105. - Scanner Configuration - 
  106.  
  107. Select Scanners/Configure Scanners to get the scanner configuration 
  108. dialog. In this dialog you can select the virus scanners you are
  109. using. For example: If you're using IBM AntiVirus and Dr. Solomon's
  110. Anti-Virus Toolkit, just select both and push each "..." (browse) 
  111. button. After pushing "..." (browse) you will be informed what to
  112. enter in the program field. 
  113.  
  114.   In case of IBM AntiVirus you have to select the IBMAVSP.EXE (up to
  115.   version 3) or IBMAVSP2.EXE (version 3) file of your IBM AntiVirus
  116.   installation path.
  117.  
  118. After choosing and configuring, push the SAVE button. The 
  119. configuration will be saved.
  120.  
  121. - Program Configuration - 
  122.  
  123. Select File/Configure to get the configuration dialog for Virus Check 
  124. Pro. In this dialog you can chose the preferred language for the
  125. program. Default is "English" but you are able to switch to German or
  126. Dutch by selecting the respective button in this dialog.

  128. Two other options are configurable:
  129.  
  130. DISABLE SOUNDS: If this option is NOT selected, you will hear sounds 
  131. when an object is scanned. You will hear different sounds depending 
  132. upon whether the object is or is not virus-infected.
  133.  
  134. MESSAGE WHEN OKAY: If this option is selected, you will not only get 
  135. information messages when an object is virus-infected but you will 
  136. also get information messages when an object is NOT virus-infected
  137.  
  138.    This feature means you will receive messages when you drag and 
  139.    drop an object to scan onto the program object.
  140.  
  141. - Working with Virus Check Pro - 
  142.  
  143. You have two different methods to scan an object:
  144.  
  145.   Method One
  146.   ==========
  147.   Drag & Drop the object to scan onto the program object which 
  148.   appears on your workplace shell's desktop.
  149.  
  150.      Virus Check Pro will use the predefined settings 
  151.      and the object will be scanned by all configured scanners. 
  152.  
  153.   Method Two
  154.   ==========
  155.   Start Virus Check Pro by double clicking on the program object then  
  156.   "drag & drop" the object you wish to scan onto the entry field of 
  157.   the main program window.
  158.  
  159.      You are able to configure Virus Scan Pro first (for example the 
  160.      scan settings), before you start the scan.
  161.  
  162. In the "Scanners" drop down menu you are able to select the scanners 
  163. you want to use. Scanners which are not configured appear as disabled
  164. in this menu.
  165.  
  166.   Note:  One of the most valuable features of Virus Check Pro is that 
  167.          you are able to select more than one scanner:  Your object
  168.          will be scanned by all selected scanners in ONE pass!!!
  169.  
  170. In the main program window, you're able to select other scan options 
  171. such as "all files," "only program files," "include subdirectories" 
  172. and "compressed archives." 
  173.  
  174.   Note:  Not all of the supported anti-virus tools can process all of
  175.          Virus Scan Pro's features. Please see the manual for your 
  176.          anti-virus tool's STANDALONE program to know which of these
  177.          features will be supported by the product you are using. If 
  178.          your virus software doesn't support one or more of Virus
  179.          Scan Pro's features which you have selected, Virus Check Pro
  180.          simply ignores the settings.

  182. The results of your scan are shown in the lower area of the main 
  183. window. This field switches from yellow to red (when there's a virus
  184. infection reported by at least one of the used scanners) or from 
  185. yellow to green (when there's no virus infection reported).

  188. ATTENTION: If there's a virus infection reported, I highly recommend 
  189.            you totally check your entire system with all of your 
  190.            anti-virus tools!!! Virus Check Pro doesn't have any
  191.            features to disinfect your system from viruses which have 
  192.            been found.

  194. - Using scan lists - 
  195.  
  196. Another high valuable feature of Virus Check Pro is configuring and 
  197. using scan lists. You can find this feature in the menu "ScanLists".
  198. With "Edit Lists" you are able to create *.LST files which contain 
  199. one ore more files and/or directories.
  200.  
  201. Virus Check Pro is able to scan the files in these lists just by a 
  202. few mouse clicks. Virus Check Pro uses all scanners which you have
  203. selected in the "Scanner" menu before you chose ScanLists/Scan list.
  204.  
  205.   Note:  This feature also uses the scan options which you have set 
  206.          in the main program window before you chose ScanLists/Scan
  207.          list.
  208.  
  209. After choosing ScanLists/Scan list, you must select the *.LST you want
  210. to use. After selecting, you must push "Scan" to start scanning.
  211.  
  212.   Note:  Before you use this feature, please edit the STANDARD.LST 
  213.          file, which is included only as a sample in the distribution 
  214.          archive of Virus Check Pro.
  215.  
  216.   Note:  If you are in the habit of transferring files from the 
  217.          Internet or from floppies to one directory or to a tree of
  218.          directories on your hard drive, you can set STANDARD.LST to 
  219.          these directories. Then it is a very simple matter to check
  220.          all the files you have transferred to your system with very
  221.          little effort.

  226. If Virus Check Pro meets your needs, please register. With your
  227. registration you will get support and all future updates of the
  228. product through version 1.99.

  230. ATTENTION:  Under the terms of the license which you have accepted by 
  231.             using Virus Check Pro, you are not permitted to use Virus
  232.             Check Pro beyond 30 days unless you have registered the
  233.             program.
