This demo version is freely redistributable. The files in this demo have
been compressed using the OS/2 version of Info-ZIP's software which is free
and available at, among others, anonymous-ftp site: hobbes.nmsu.edu.
TO INSTALL THIS DEMO:
Run the executable program BMDPDIAM.exe. Either double click on its icon or
make the directory holding the file current and
Type BMDPDIAM <return>
You will be prompted for your name at the Installation Window.
Type your name in the box and press <return>
Click on the OK button in the Logo Window
Select a data set by clicking on its name
There is a short tutorial in the file TUTORIAL.DOC. Also, help is available from
most windows by clicking on the word HELP.
Once installed, the executable module BMDPdiam provides a convenient cover
for running Diamond with the sample data sets.
It takes no arguments, but prompts for interactive selection.
For more experienced users, a command line interface can be used.
There are two executable modules for exploring data: Diamond and Ice.
Both are executable from the command line. Diamond is the main application,
and Ice is an example of a complementary alternate visualization tool
which may also be called from Diamond on a selected subset of data.
There are several pairs of sample data and title files:
econ.* 10 economic indicators in the US quarterly from 1967 to 1991
economy.* 20 economic indicators in the US quarterly from 1967 to 1991
elements.* 23 physical characteristics for the elements (has missing values)
fisher.* 5 physical characteristics of flowers
math.* ranges of 14 mathematical functions over a common domain
The title files have some comments which further explain their variables.
There are also some corresponding equation files, to add some interesting
initial defined variables to the sets.
The files may each be invoked simply by supplying a single base pair name, like
diamond economy
However, more elaborate sample invocations are in the Try*.cmd command scripts.
To use BMDP/DIAMOND on data sets other than the supplied samples,
