  4. This application is a simple plotter for quick and easy generation
  5. of X/Y plots from files of numerical data.  It runs only on an OS/2 machine
  6. and operates from a graphical user interface.  I find myself opening
  7. multiple instances of simple plotter within my c++ development environment.
  8.  
  9. Features:

  11. * Support multiple plots.
  12. * Supports cut and paste of plots between and within 
  13.      instances of simple plotter.
  14. * Reads arbitrary ascii and binary files of data.
  15. * Uses separate threads for plotting and file operations.
  16. * Uses dynamic memory for unlimited plot sizes.
  17. * Scale adjustments for X and Y.
  18. * Scrolling of data and zoom feature.

  20. Latest Changes:
  21.   Version 1.90 releases the first effort at a usable X and Y
  22. axis with zoom and scrolling.  The axis may be moved, and are
  23. implemented as separate windows.  Much work has been done on 
  24. organizing the internel message passing between threads, and
  25. the groundwork opens the way for more interesting features in
  26. the months ahead. However, user's will see obvious improvements
  27. in data handling that have not been made.  I intend to fix the
  28. obvious over the next few weeks, generating vesions 1.91,1.92, ...

  30. Operating instructions:
  31.  
  32.   1) UNZIP the file using the standard unzip utility.  The command is:
  33.           unzip myplot
  34.  
  35.     2) Then run the application by typing:
  36.          myplot
  37.  
  38.     3) When the application comes up on the screen, use the menu bar and
  39.        click on the help button.

  42. The file comes complete with a sample data file so the user should be able to
  43. bring up a simple plot immediately by clicking on Files, then on Open in the
  44. files sub menu. Select Myplot.dat for a test file. No DLL should be necessary.

  48. Future Versions:

  50. Obviously much more work will go into version 1.X, but all concerned
  51. with user interface and usability.

  53. Versions 2.x:
  54.  
  55. Versions 2.x will support REXX utilities that can manipulate columns.
  56. This will be the mechanism for customizing the simple plotter for
  57. support of specific applications and will allow users to incorporate
  58. custom data routines by installing them as REXX commands.

  60. I am looking for a mathematical library to incorporate into a REXX
  61. based signal analysis tool.  Notify me of any ideas.

  63. Versions 2.x will support the Open Doc standard for linking to other
  64. applications, at some point.

  66. The major difference with this product is that the scales will become
  67. major control objects as versions 2.X proceed.  We will be able to
  68. link scale objects across different instances of simple plotter for
  69. related scrolling and scale mapping.  Rexx math functions can be attached
  70. to the scales for special mappings.  ANd other features not yet invented.

  73. I have not yet put together an installation script, but
  74. mainly there is only the myplot.hlp which, if not installed
  75. properly yields an "Unable to init help" message.
