ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Help for File ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use File to open files for plotting. File Open, Saveas, and Import are
available. During file read or import some intermediate data will be plotted.
Also any resetting of the axis or selected columns will cause intermediate data
to be plotted. This feature can be used to monitor the read progress of a long
file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.1. Help for Open ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use Open to initialize the plotter with a new XY table of numbers. The default
file is MYPLOT.DAT in the current directory.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2. Help for Import ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use Import to accept a new file of numerical values which are added to the Y
column set. Thus, if columns 1 and 2 are filled, importing a new file will fill
columns 3,4,5.. The plot always uses the first column of the first file for
the X axis.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.3. Help for Saveas ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use Saveas to save the entire X,Y column set into a new file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.4. Help for Read ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use Read to re-initialize the plot system with the current file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Help for Options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use Options to check off the Y columns which should be plotted, and to set
heading or axis scales in the commercial version of plotter. A check mark
appears next to your selection when the selection is active.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Open ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use Open to select a plotfile.
1. Select the down arrow to the right of the Drive list to display all the
drives on your system.
2. Select a drive from the Drive list.
3. Select a directory from the Directory list.
4. Select a file name from the File list or type in a file name.
5. Select the Open pushbutton to initialize Simple Plotter with a new file.
Read is used to re-initialize with the current file.
For a detailed explanation of each field, select from the list below:

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.1. Cut and Paste Operations ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The submenu unser Services allows user to cut or copy the currently selected
columns (those which appear on the plot window). The cut or copied columns may
then be pasted to the same or to another instance of the Simple Plotter.
The cut and paste operation will not cut out column zero, nor will it paste in
a new column zero unless the Simple Plotter is empty. When copying or cutting,
the column zero list is taken into the clipboard, but will be ignored if it is
not needed in the paste operation.
The cut and paste operations will terminate any file activity.
The restrictions on the X ordinate selection will be removed gradually over the
next releases.
The plotter does rescale the Y axis after a paste.
WARNING! Pasting clipboard data from another application to Simple Plotter may
cause a crash. This is a known bug.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.2. License Agreement ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This application may be used and copied by users without constraint for 30
days. After the thirty day trial period, users must remit $18 to the author.
Purchase of a license entitles user to all new releases of Simple Plotter for
one year.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.3. Principles of Operations ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Simply read in one or more files of text numbers, each number on a line
separated by a white space characters (one or more spaces or TAB). The numbers
will be plotted against the left most column of numbers in the first file.
Only enabled columns will be plotted.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.4. Loading Values ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
To open a file of numbers
1. Select File.
2. Select Open to see a list of files.
3. Select Binary to select a binary file format.
4. Select Read to re-initialize with the most recent file.
5. Select Import to append new columns to the plot structure.
6. Select a file.
7. Select OK and the file is read.
8. Column one is enabled for plotting.
The Binary option under the files menu allows the selection of a data format
and a row width (or number of columns). If double or float is selected and the
file is not float or double, then floating point normalization errors may occur
with unknown consequences.
The user may elect to put an incrementing sequence in column 0, or let column
zero be filled from the binary file. The Append mode operates as the file
Import mode, appending the incoming columns to the existing plot structure.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.5. Enabling Columns ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
o Select the Options menu and Columns sub menu.
o Click on the columns to be plotted.
o The column one is the second value in the first file.
o The X axis is the first column in the first file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.6. Selecting the Binary Format ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
o Select Binary under the File menu.
o Select one of float, integer, double, or unsigned byte.
o Select Increment Col 1 to create a counting sequence as X.
o Select Append to existing to keep current X ordinate.
o Enter the number of expected columns.
o Close the dialog, and the file dialog appears.
The binary file reader converts the binary stream to values according to the
selected format. Enough values are read to satisify the number of columns
before incrementing to the next row.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.7. Setting the X,Y Scales ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
o Select the Axis submenu under Options.
o The entry fields contain current limits for X,Y min and X,Y max.
o Reset these as required and close dialog.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.8. Contacting the Author ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
To contact the author for commercial upgrades to Simple Plotter.

The commercial version of Simple Plotter includes logrithm, exponential, and
probability scales; headings axis plot options; print facilities; and a greater
variety of plot formats. Price: $18.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.9. Memory Limits ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The system will report out of space for for
More than ten files read
More than 12 Columns of data
More than 80000 values in the columns.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.10. Scrolling and Scaling ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Under the Axis option, a field called Xmag allows the user to set the X
magnification scale, and use the scroll bars appropriately. The current
position of the viewed data should be reflected in the X axis, (and Y axis).
The axes may be moved by putting the pointer on them, depressing the left
button, and moving the pointer to the new location. The axes will overflow if
the data is not scaled to plus or minus 100.
