  11. Known Problems
  12. ---------------
  13.  
  14. When the application is used with the Fast Movie Machine
  15. card and the Kirchhoff&Grill driver, there is no sound
  16. output from the application.
  17.  
  18. The Ampmix sound control code does not work with
  19. SoundBlaster cards. I believe that is caused by
  20. the SoundBlaster card driver not supporting the
  21. MCI mixer command set.
  22.  
  23. Occasionally the program will not appear to process
  24. the event for "TV ON" or "Tuner On" or turn on the
  25. TV when a preset station is selected. There is a problem
  26. with the application obtaining a valid instance of
  27. the TV card driver. When this happens the "turn on"
  28. action is aborted and nothing happens. The text in the
  29. button will change to "Try Again". If this occurs
  30. just press the button again and the TV or Tuner should
  31. turn on.
  32.

  36. CHANGES in version 1.21
  37.  
  38. A new button "Video ON/OFF" has been added to the 
  39. screen. This button lets you turn the video display
  40. off and on when the TV is turned on. The button has
  41. no effect when the TV is turned off or when the
  42. Tuner is on.
  43.  
  44. The dialog screen now has "Minimize" and "Maximize" 
  45. control buttons on the top right corner.
  46.  
  47. The program will now reset the Hauppauge cards to the
  48. "test pattern" connector when the TV is turned off. This
  49. depends on the capability in driver version 1.040B and
  50. later that provides access to the "Test pattern" video in 
  51. connector number 4.

  53. When the TV or the Tuner is turned on the window title
  54. now shows the product name for the video capture card.
  55.  
  56. All controls now test for an active connection to
  57. the video device. If one is not present the controls
  58. do not operate.

  62. "Hints" are now displayed in a field at the bottom
  63. of the dialog box when the cursor is held over a
  64. control on the dialog box.

  66. If the application does not obtain a valid driver 
  67. instance during the "open device" processing the
  68. open action is terminated without an error message.

  73. The program now has an "MCI" button that will display
  74. the MCI interface capability information for the 
  75. digitalvideo device selected.

  79. The program now generates a random alias name for the
  80. Digitalvideo device each time the TV or the TUNER are
  81. turned on. This eliminated some errors with assigning
  82. the video in connectors.

  85. the channels when the high and low channels are passed.

  87. The Frequency field now shows the tuned frequency when
  88. the channel is changed.

  92. The program will now scan for ALL the Digitalvideo devices
  93. installed that support a TV tuner. This may correct some
  94. problems when people have more than one tuner capable
  95. device installed. Earlier versions of the program stopped
  96. scanning after locating the first tuner capable device.

  98. The sound volume handling has been changed to use the
  99. Ampmix device that is connected to the Wincast/TV card
  100. through the default wave stream connection.
  101.  
  102. There is now a 'check box' for 'Use MasterAudio' just
  103. below the volume slider. When this box is checked the
  104. volume control and 'Mute' button use the Master Audio 
  105. Volume control for setting the volume and muting
  106. the sound output.

  110. The program dialog will stay open when the "TV Off" or
  111. "Tuner Off" button is pressed.

  113. The "Channel" control will now allow the entry of the
  114. channel number for the tuner. The channel number is
  115. validated during entry, this prevents the user from entering
  116. a channel number that starts with a digit lower than
  117. the lowest valid channel number unless the field is
  118. "selected" (all digits highlighted).

  120. The "Channel" control would allow the channel selection
  121. to be outside of the range for the selected Region File.
  122. The program now tests for the Region File channel range
  123. for any change in the channel setting.

  128. some TV card drivers.

  143. "line in" connector for audio is enabled and the
  144. command fails. The program would report a failure 
  145. to enable the "video in" connector.

  150. as a device with a TV tuner.

  152. When the YADTV/2 application was closed using the system
  153. menu and the TV or Tuner were not turned on the program
  154. would display "invalid device" messages.

  158. The "Size" buttons now include an X4 size. With an NTSC
  159. signal the X4 button will provide a 640X480 display
  160. image. This is the maximum image size that can be displayed.

  162. This button will only display a good image if it is used
  163. with the WCAST.SYS version 1.030M or later. This version
  164. of the driver also corrects some problems with MCI image
  165. handling that occur with drivers later than version 1.021J.
  166.  
  167. When the "Presets" button is pressed the TV will be turned
  168. on if it is in the off state.
  169.

  174. CHANGES in version 1.09

  176. The code that scans for digital video devices with tuner
  177. support has been changed. The code had a bug that would
  178. work with a developer's kit version of mdm.dll but had
  179. problems with the Warp4 release of mdm.dll.

  181. The program would display 'connector type not supported messages'
  182.  
  183. CHANGES in Version 1.08

  185. The program now has a "Tuner" mode. This mode adjusts the
  186. tuning for the card but does not display the monitor window.
  187. This mode is intended to be used with an application that 
  188. displays the video from the capture card but does not
  189. have a method of setting the tuner channel or connector.
  190. An example of this type of application is the VideoIn 
  191. recorder (SWVR.EXE) shipped with the Warp 4 BonusPak.

  193. This mode will NOT work with the MainActor/2 version 2.06
  194. beta. This application acquires the video capture device
  195. in exclusive mode, and no other application can access
  196. the device through the MCI interface.
  197.  
  198. The program now uses a different technique for calculating
  199. the display size for the X1, X2, and X3 display size buttons.
  200. It should maintain the proper aspect ratio.

  205. The Presets window now has a menu "View" that allows
  206. you change the container view to "Column" (the default)
  207. or "Details". The Details view shows all the parameters 
  208. saved for each Preset Channel.

  210. The "Presets" button will now turn the TV on if it
  211. is not already turned on.
  212.  
  213. The MultiMedia Setup section is updates with information
  214. on using the VXPVAR command to set the TUNERTYPE. If you
  215. are not able to change channels with the application please
  216. read this section and try changing the TUNERTYPE value.

  220. The display of the video image and the output of sound
  221. from the video capture card is now suppressed when the
  222. YADTV/2 TV is turned off. This has been tested with
  223. version 1.020X of the WCAST driver. If you have an
  224. earlier version please download the newer version
  225. from http://www.wdi.co.uk/os2tv/download.htm

  227. NOTE - the version number on the download page is not
  228. always changed when a new driver is available.
  229.  
  230. NOTE - The default settings from the Multimedia setup
  231. notebook may be set to bring the TV card up in a state
  232. where it is tuned into a channel with the sound turned
  233. on. If you have this problem - change the settings in
  234. the multimedia setup to default to the test pattern.

  236. The program dialog now exits when the TV Off button is
  237. pressed. This change was required to ensure that the 
  238. suppression of the video image display would work.
  239.  
  240. There is an now an AFC control button. This button turns
  241. the tuner AFC function on and off. The button text changes 
  242. to indicate the state of the AFC control.
  243.  
  244. There is now a "Save" button. This button saves the current
  245. settings in a data file. When the button is pressed a
  246. dialog is displayed that allows you to view the channel settings
  247. that have been saved.
  248.  
  249. There is now a "Presets" button. This button displays a
  250. dialog that allows you to view the channel settings that have
  251. been saved. Selecting one of the Settings in the dialog will
  252. set the TV controls to the values for that Setting.
  253.  
  254. The program now supports saving and selecting of channel
  255. settings. The program records these settings in the file
  256.

  258.  
  259. The file contains a record for each combination of channel,
  260. connector, and region file name. The fields stored are:

  274. There is no way to remove a record from the file in the program.
  275. You can edit the file with any text editor and remove the lines
  276. you don't want. The file is an ascii text file.

  278. The first record in the file is used as the default setting when
  279. the TV is turned on.

  281. The yadtv2.ini file is saved when the TV is turned off.
  282.  
  283. There is a "Scan" button. This button opens a dialog box
  284. that will do a channel scan. Right now the program does
  285. not save the results of the scan.

  290. on the monitor window.

  306.  
  307. This application uses the Abbotsbury Wincast/TV driver
  308. GRADD direct draw to display the TV picture. You must
  309. have a GRADD video driver installed to use the application.
  310.

  315. Plase refer to the GRADD.DOC file in the driver kit
  316. to set up your installation to use the GRADD direct
  317. draw.

  319. CONFIG.SYS example for GRADD setup (using MGAGRADD)
  320. the VCAFILT entry in the C1 variable is the Wincast/TV
  321. GRADD driver.

  330. There is no installation routine for the application.
  331. Copy YADTV2.EXE to the directory of your choice
  332. and set up a program object if you want.
  333.  
  334. The application was created using the DrDialog software
  335. written by David C Morrill of the IBM T.J. Watson Research
  336. Center. 
  337.  
  338. The application uses the MCI (Media Control Interface) routines
  339. to access the driver and display the picture.
  340.  
  341. OPERATION
  342.  
  343. The application scans the Digitalvideo devices installed
  344. in the system looking for the first device that has TV tuner
  345. support.
  346.  
  347. The tuner region files are loaded from the C:\MMOS2\REGION
  348. directory. The first one in the list is the default. You
  349. will have to select the region each time you run the 
  350. application. If you want a particular region file to be the
  351. first in the list copy it to a.rgn
  352.  
  353. (ie: copy \mmos2\region\usa.rgn \mmos2\region\a.rgn)
  354.  
  355. The default channel setting is obtained from the driver
  356. default settings.
  357.  
  358. MULTIMEDIA SETUP NOTEBOOK
  359.  
  360. The VXPVAR command is used to adjust the variables used
  361. by the WCAST driver. These parameters are stored in the
  362. "WCAST 1.INI" file.
  363.  
  364. ---------------------------------------------------------
  365. NOTE - the following problem was corrected in the
  366. WCAST driver version 1.021R.
  367.  
  368. The driver initialization routine may not set the 
  369. variable TUNERTYPE correctly. The value is set to C6
  370. instead of the value C2. You can use the VXPVAR command
  371. to set the value by typing the command:
  372.  
  373.    VXPVAR WCAST 1 TUNERTYPE C2
  374.  
  375. The program will show the current value and ask if you
  376. want to change it. Answer Yes.
  377.  
  378. When the TUNERTYPE is set incorrectly the application
  379. programs using the driver (this includes the multimedia
  380. setup notebook) will not be able to change channels on
  381. the tuner.
  382.  
  383. NOTE after this command is used the Multimedia setup
  384. program must be executed (it's in the system setup folder)
  385. for the new value to be saved in the "WCAST 1.INI" file.
  386. ------------------------------------------------------------
  387.  
  388. The settings in the multimedia setup notebook will affect
  389. the alignment of the picture in the monitor window.
  390.  
  391. The Align page (3 of 6 with 1.020X) has two sliders for the
  392. Display window position. These should be set to 44
  393. horizontal and 16 vertical. Some video drivers may require
  394. other settings. Experiment with the values until the
  395. display image aligns with the window.
  396.  
  397. When the Multimedia setup notebook and the YADTV application
  398. are running at the same time you will have to press the size
  399. buttons or move the monitor window to force the video display 
  400. to the monitor window.
  401.  
  402. Any tuning changes made in the Multimedia setup notebook are
  403. not reflected in the YADTV application and vice versa.
  404.  
  405. KNOWN RESTRICTIONS
  406.  
  407. The Volume control slider adjusts the master audio level
  408. for all sounds. The current WCAST driver does not support
  409. changes to the sound level of the TV card through the MCI
  410. interface.
  411.  
  412. There is no help for the application.
