  1. Welcome to Home Automation & Security for OS/2 and thank
  2. you for trying HOUSE/290 ver 2.0 for the CP290 controller.

  5. I N T R O D U C T I O N:
  6.  
  7. HOUSE/290 is a graphical user interface for the popular
  8. CP290 home automation controller from X-10. This OS/2
  9. application contains a separate, REXX-enabled and network
  10. aware Communications Engine, allowing it to extend the
  11. functionality of the CP290 beyond it's capabilities.
  12. This makes HOUSE/290 one of the most powerful and
  13. flexible home automation programs available.

  16. HOUSE/290 contains three independently executable programs:
  17.  
  18.   H290.EXE -     (H290Splash Starts All) A program that starts
  19.                  up both the Comm Engine and the client and also
  20.                  acts as a splash screen. This is the program to
  21.                  start HOUSE/290 on a single, non-networked computer.
  22.  
  23.   H290MAIN.EXE - A GUI client based on HOUSE/2. It talks
  24.                  to the Comm Engine to control the CP290.
  25.                  Operation is similar to HOUSE/2, except
  26.                  it is limited to the capabilities of
  27.                  the CP290 interface. Start this program
  28.                  on any workstation to access the Comm Engine.
  29.  
  30.   CP290CE.EXE -  Called the Comm Engine. This is a fully
  31.                  REXX-enabled server that interfaces
  32.                  a client program to the CP290. It uses
  33.                  a named pipe to communicate to the client
  34.                  and makes the Comm Engine accessible over
  35.                  a LAN or peer-to-peer network as well. You
  36.                  can also launch user defined programs triggered
  37.                  by X-10 events originating from the CP290.
  38.                  Start this program on the same workstation
  39.                  where the CP290 is connected to.

  42. I N S T A L L A T I O N
  43.  
  44. Note: If you run Warp 4, fixpack 10 and Object REXX, you must
  45.       switch to classic REXX to install HOUSE/290. After
  46.       installation, you can switch back to Object REXX.

  48.   To get started with HOUSE/290 quickly, please do the following:
  49.  
  50.   1. Install HOUSE/290
  51.  
  52.      - Unzip the program archive into a separate, temporary
  53.        directory, with the name H290INST for example. That
  54.        directory MUST be separate from the final directory.
  55.  
  56.      - Open an OS/2 command prompt, change to the drive
  57.        and directory where you put the HOUSE/290 files
  58.        and run HOUSE290.EXE
  59.  
  60.      - The self-extracting installation program will put a
  61.        folder with all the HOUSE/290 program objects onto your
  62.        desktop. Simply follow the given prompts. A reboot after
  63.        installation is NOT required.

  66.   2. Run HOUSE/290 by double-clicking on the H290Splash icon.
  67.      To load a sample module SET, select File-Open and load
  68.      the included SAMPLE.SET file. To get help, simply press
  69.      F1 anywhere inside the program.

  71.      When first run, the Comm Engine will be minimized and only
  72.      the HOUSE/290 client is visible. All controls of the Comm
  73.      Engine can be done throught the client. To make the Comm
  74.      Engine visible, simply press CRTL-ESC to bring up the
  75.      windows list and double-click on the Comm Engine entry.

  78. U N I N S T A L L A T I O N
  79.  
  80. Run UNINSTAL.CMD which will completely remove all HOUSE/290 files
  81. and objects from your system. No reboot is required.
