Installation Notes for
DESKMAIL
1. Support
This prototype version of DeskMail has limited support from
TriSys Corporation. Any feature that is disabled due to the
nature of a prototype will not be supported. For a list of
those disabled functions, please see the RESTRICTIONS section
of this file. DeskMail is written to EHLLAPI and should be
capable of running with any OS/2 emulator that supports EHLLAPI.
If you have difficulty running DeskMail with your emulator,
please let us know.
2. Files
The DESKMAIL.ZIP file contains two files:
README - This file
DESKEXE.ZIP - File containing prototype code
The DESKEXE.ZIP file contains the following files:
DESKMAIL.INF - A viewable file containing prototype
general information
VROBJ.DLL - A runtime library to enable the prototype
to function
DESKMAIL.EXE - VX-REXX executable. Prototype
SYSINI.INI - System initialization file for DeskMail
INSTALL.EXE - VX-REXX executable to change the settings
in the SYSINI.INI file.
3. Restrictions
This DeskMail prototype is meant for prototyping purposes only.
To prevent a proliferation of this application from implmenented
in production, the following features are disabled:
Automatic LOGON and LOGOFF
(Since autologon and logoff are not supported, you
must start EPQSTATE manually on the host when starting
the application)
Automatic Uploads and Download
(Uploads of files to mail is not restricted. Downloads
of printouts is not restricted)
Help facility
4. Bugs
Some problems have been found but not yet resolved. Most of the
problems are results of problems within the prototyping tool
used (VX-REXX) which should be fixed in the next patch of this
tool. Some of these problems include:
1. DeskMail fails to recognize HLLAPI at first run. Once
it is attempted the first time, all subsequent starts
of the application succeed ====> This is a problem with
how DeskMail was coded in this first release. This will
be fixed in the next release of the prototype due out
with some enhancements on 4 October, 1993.
2. When downloading a print file that expands more than
1 page, control characters are located in the left most
column ====> Control characters are not supported
in this version of the prototype. Support will be
provided in the Beta release of the program which is
expected to be released around 25 October, 1993.
3. When printing a document, a console window is opened
showing the number of bytes transfered ====> This
cannot be disabled until the patch to VX-REXX is
released. This is expected to be included in the next
release of the prototype due out 4 October, 1993.
4. In the task list, a console window is listed titled:
VXREXX Console ====> See problem 3 above.
5. Ordering Information
If a DeskMail application would solve some needs in your company,
please contact TriSys Corporation at:
(703) 827-7927
or write electronically on the OS/2 BBS ((703) 385-4325) to:
Gerard Michaelson
for information on having a version customized for you. Deskmail
is intended to be customized on a per company basis. A version
that performs more functions than the prototype will be made available
electronically for free around 4th quarter 1993, but will not
support automatic logon / logoff nor have enhanced Help provided.
6. Prototype Information
We welcome any suggesstions you may have for improvements to the
DeskMail user interface. In the event that you cannot use DeskMail
with your OS/2 HLLAPI or EHLLAPI capable emulator, please contact us.
It is our goal to have DeskMail operate correctly with all OS/2
HLLAPI emulators.
