  8. INTRODUCTION:
  9.  
  10. This is the a new release of PMsndX.  Extensive online
  11. help is provided from the main control panel.  To read the
  12. help, pull down the system menu in the upper left corner
  13. of the PMsndX control panel and select HELP.  This provides a
  14. description of the form and function.

  39. *  The power-PC version of PMsndX has been discontinued
  40.    as a results of IBM's decision to drop development of
  41.    OS/2 for the PPC.

  43. INSTALLATION PROGRAM:
  44.  
  45. Starting with version 2.12, PMsndX has abandoned the use of
  46. minstall.exe (multimedia installation tool from IBM) due to
  47. limitations in the program.  PMsndX now has a full installation
  48. program which provides all of the necessary control in a single
  49. program.  Installation is much simpler.
  50.  
  51. To install PMsndX, execute the program INSTALL.EXE from an
  52. OS/2 command line or from a file view on the desktop.  The
  53. installation program requires that the user specify the
  54. destination for both the executable programs (edsndx.exe
  55. and plsndx.exe) as well as the destination for the help path.
  56. If the destinations are not already in the executable PATH
  57. and the HELP path, the config.sys is edited automatically.

  59. Please read the HELP (press the HELP button) prior to
  60. installation of PMsndX to become familiar with the actions
  61. that it will perform.

  64. MANUAL INSTALLATION:
  65.  
  66. If the installation does not work on your system or you
  67. have doubts about running it, you may manually install
  68. PMsndX on your system with the following instructions.
  69.  
  70. Installation of PMsndX is very simple.  You must place
  71. the executables in a directory that is referenced in your
  72. PATH statement in your config.sys.  If this is not done,
  73. PMsndX will not be able to play samples from the command
  74. line.  You must then place the help file in a directory
  75. in your HELP path or in the same directory as the
  76. executable program.  That is it.

  78. Look at your config.sys file with an editor like E.EXE
  79. and locate the statement that looks like this:

  81. SET PATH=E:\OS2;E:\OS2\SYSTEM;E:\OS2\INSTALL;E:\;E:\OS2\MDOS;E:\OS2\APPS;
  82.  
  83. Choose something like \os2\apps and copy the file pmsndx.exe
  84. to that directory.

  86. To install the help file, copy the file pmsndx.hlp to a directory
  87. that is listed in your HELPPATH statement in your config.sys.
  88. If the help file is not in your help path, neither EdSndX.exe nor
  89. PlSndX.exe will be able to provide context sensitive help.

  92. WARNING:
  93.  
  94. There is a known problem with PMsndX and MMPM/2 version 3.0.
  95. When running PMsndX under Warp, anything which interrupts the
  96. playback of a sample (such as a system sound or pressing Pause)
  97. will cause both EdSndX and PlSndX to continue with the button
  98. animation to continue to animate even after the audio has completed.
  99. In this revision, you can press the stop button to end animation. To
  100. minimize the effect, I have provided the option to have
  101. PMsndX open the Audio device without sharing (the default).
  102. This problem does not appear to affect PMsndX on previous versions
  103. of OS/2 (i.e. 2.0, 2.1 and 2.11).

  108. I just don't have time to develop this program any longer.  I would,
