HearThis! is a simple program that helps improve your musical pitch.
This file contains last minute changes and additions to the on line help, notes
on new features and installation instructions.
New Features
HearThis! now tests your recognition of scales and chords.
Chords can either be harmonic or arpeggioed.
Chords can be played in 1st, 2nd inversion, with no inversion or with random inversion.
Installation
unzip the program into whatever directory you desire. Start the program from that
directory.
IMPORTANT: Old score (*.scr) files will not work correctly with this version of HearThis!.
You will notice that new *.scr files saved by HearThis! are larger than the old ones. The reason for the
incompatibility is that HearThis! now keeps track of new information. This will allow you to determine why
certain intervals are difficult for you. For examle, some people frequently hear a fifth when an octave is
played. The new file format will allow to determine exactly how you are missguessing a particular interval
and by how much. The format is simple. The first two columns are sucesses and total guesses. The next
seventeen numbers are the number of times you guessed a particular interval. The rows correspond to the
interval actually played. Displaying this file in a spreadsheet or tabular format is possible with the aid
of a word processor or a spreadsheet program. It is not currently displayed in a readable fasion by HearThis!
Known Bugs
Occasionally only one or no notes play when the play button or next
button is pressed. This can be worked around by pressing the play
button again until both notes of the interval are heard.
