*************************************************************************
This is the README.DOC file for Scratch-N-Post v1.09,
Copyright 1995, SoftPaw Development. This file contains important
information which you should read at your earliest convenience.
*************************************************************************
What this file contains:
- An OVERVIEW of what Scratch-N-Post v1.09 is, and why you want to use it
- ORDERING this product if you like the trial version
- TECHNICAL SUPPORT details
- ENHANCEMENTS and/or fixes since prior releases
- A section on LEGAL STUFF
- A LOOK AHEAD at planned features and products
*************************************************************************
OVERVIEW
Scratch-N-Post is a unique cross between a "scratch-pad"-type program and
a personal reminder. It combines the convenience of being able to "take
notes" quickly and easily, with a sophisticated real-time alarm-management
system which allows you to have certain notes "pop-up" to remind you of
either regularly recurring or one-time events. Notes taken may later be
reviewed, edited, or printed either individually or in logical groupings.
Examples of uses include: reminders for weekly meetings; easily taking
down notes on a project throughout the day as thoughts occur to you, then
printing them all out that evening for summarization; setting an alarm to
remind you to pay the mortgage on the 23rd of each month, or to take the
food out of the oven in 2 hours! ...The possibilities are endless!
Features a custom-designed "smart" icon menu which not only combines the
functionality of a menu bar and an icon bar into a single cohesive unit
providing the advantages of both, but also provides an unparalleled ease
of use by only presenting options relevant to the task at hand at any
given time, instead of a huge, static "master" menu where you have to
figure out which options apply to what you're trying to do.
SoftPaw Development retains all rights to Scratch-N-Post, but allows a
trial version of it, within certain limitations, to be distributed freely
and to be used for a trial period in order to allow you to determine if it
suits your needs before you pay for it. The trial period is 30 days. If,
after this trial period, you wish to continue using the product, you are
expected to pay for it by ordering it (also referred to as "registering"),
or to discontinue using it and remove it from your system. Continued use
of this product after the trial period has expired is in violation of the
terms of this agreement.
The cost of ordering Scratch-N-Post and becoming a registered user is
only $20 (slightly higher if ordered via CompuServe's Shareware Registration
feature), and provides numerous benefits as outlined in the section below.
Select the Register button in the Settings dialog for instructions on
ordering via mail (postal service) or using CompuServe's Shareware
Registration facility (Registration Database ID for this product is 4809).
If you obtained a 'trial' version of this product, distributed as the
file SNPOST.ZIP, then SoftPaw Development authorizes and encourages you
to give a copy of that file, SNPOST.ZIP, to anyone else you know who may
be interested in it, as long as the file is in it's original, unmodified
condition. You are NOT authorized to distribute copies of 'registered'
versions of this product, or to allow others to use your 'keys' to register.
Uploading of SNPOST.ZIP to Bulletin Boards is also allowed under the same
conditions.

ORDERING
Ordering this product (also referred to as becoming a registered user)
is easy and takes only a few minutes of your time. The cost of ordering
Scratch-N-Post v1.09 is $20 by mail, or $23.50 using CompuServe's Shareware
Registration facility (the added cost is due to CompuServe's retention
of a portion of the registration fee for providing the service), and
provides the following benefits:
- a disk containing the latest version of the product will be shipped
(wherever possible), which may include minor enhancements
or fixes to problems which surfaced after the initial release;
- ensures that you will be able to receive technical support for the
product for at least 90 days (usually much longer);
- entitles you to use any future MINOR upgrades without having to
re-register;
- entitles you to an "upgrade" price on the next MAJOR release;
- provides us with a way to contact you for notices regarding future
releases, new products, etc.;
- provides reimbursement for time and effort put into developing the
product, and funding for future enhancements to the product;
- gets rid of annoying reminders which may be displayed to notify you
after the 'trial' period has ended (if you're using a trial).
Note that some or all of the above benefits may not apply to any
orders accepted on or after January 1, 1997. Anyone wishing to order this
product on or after that date is encouraged to look for or inquire about a
newer version of this product.
Acceptance of the registration fee by SoftPaw Development licenses
this program to be 'registered' on up to two personal computers for the
private use of a single individual or household. This means that both you
and your spouse can legally use a single registered version, but NOT you
and all your friends. This means that you CAN have it on your desktop
computer AND your laptop for your own personal use, but NOT on the computer
at work for everyone to use (unless you get a site-license, see below).
Please abide by the intent of this agreement, which is to BE REASONABLE.
This license also applies, with the above conditions and limitations, to
any MINOR upgrades to this product by SoftPaw Development (all versions of
Scratch-N-Post up to but not including version 2.00). This means that if
you order version 1.00 and later obtain a copy of version 1.01 (with bug
fixes, minor enhancements, etc.) you have the right to use the newer version
(1.01) as a registerd user, IN PLACE OF the prior version (1.00), with no
additional payment or notice to SoftPaw Development, but with the same
restrictions.
Your license does NOT automatically entitle you to 'registered' use of
future MAJOR upgrades of Scratch-N-Post (version 2.00 and after), although
it does at the very least entitle you to order the next major upgrade
(2.00) for an "upgrade" price, which is to be less than the price of
ordering for individuals not registered with a previous version of
Scratch-N-Post.
Commercial users, government offices and other institutions should contact
SoftPaw Development for information on a site-license, volume discount,
and to find out more about our multi-user version.
