INTRODUCTION

Rolodex/2 is an OS/2 2.x shareware program to store information about people,
companies, etc.  I hope you enjoy it.


CHANGES

Rolodex/2 v2.05c
               Bug Squashed   - Fix a bug with the dialing features.
                                Rolodex/2 now gives up the com port
                                after dialing or hanging up.

               Bug Squashed   - Fix a bug that appeared in OS/2 2.11
               Quick View     - Added a quick view of a card
               Popup Menu     - Press the right mouse button to get a
                                popup menu.

Rolodex/2 v2.05
               Speed          - I have loaded several windows when the
                                program starts.  This make for a longer
                                load time but the add/change, group, fonts,
                                print options all work much faster this way.
               Multi-select   - The main window now allows multiple selected
                                objects.  You can select a group of names and
                                print their card/envelope/report, delete, view
                                the group.
               Printing       - I have added more printing options.  Now you
                                adjust the spaces, order, width of printed
                                printed reports, envelopes, cards.
               Card View      - There are 2 ways of view a card.  The old
                                screen view like add/change card or the new
                                sizable window.  Both are now thread and
                                support printing, email, ftp, etc from their
                                window.
               Titles         - The main window & card view titles now show
                                which Rolodex/2 file or card you are look at.
               Fax            - Any fax software that can start in an OS/2
                                work with Rolodex/2.
               Modem          - Any modem/communication software that can
                                start in an OS/2 should work with Rolodex/2.
               Button Bar     - This is now a movable button bar.


SETUP

Copy vrobj.dll to a directory in your libpath.  ex: c:\os2\dll
VRobj.dll is version 2.0

Copy all other files into any directory you wish.  ex: c:\rolodex

Just type or click on Rolodex2.exe to start.  You can also drag or type
rolodex2.exe myrolodexfile and it will automatically load the file.

BUILDROL.CMD   - A rexx program to create a folder, Roldoex/2 program,
                 order form, readme file, a shadow of rolodex.rol and
                 a Rolodex/2 program with rolodex.rol as a startup variable.

QUICKST.CMD    - A Rexx program to add to your startup folder or your
                 startup.cmd file.  This load vrobj.dll at OS/2 startup time.

DISTRIBUTION CONDITIONS

You are free to distribute this shareware version of Rolodex/2 as long as
the following conditions are met:

  1) The distributed archive must contain ONLY the files listed above.
  2) The contents of this archive are NOT MODIFIED in any way.
  3) This version is not to be sold.  However, a reasonable disk copying fee
     is permitted.
  4) This version is not to be bundled with a commercially sold package
     without permission from the author.




HOW TO REGISTER

If you use Rolodex/2 for more than 15 days, you are expected to register
Rolodex/2.  When you register, you will receive the latest version of
Rolodex/2.  Plus information of other great products that I have created.

The registration fee is only $20 (US funds) see the ORDER.FRM for details.

Updates and bug fixes are free but shipping charge may apply.
Major new releases might require a small upgrade fee.  Users who register
Rolodex/2 and provide an e-mail address will automatically receive
updates via e-mail.

For e-mail registrations, you need to use a program called "uudecode" to
decode the uuencoded file that I email to you.  For your information,
a uuencoded file is a binary file that is converted to text by a program
called "uuencode".  If your mail system rejects large messages, I will
split the uuencoded file into smaller parts before mailing the parts to
you, and you will need to edit the messages with a text editor before
you can decode them.

Registration of Rolodex/2 is based on personal usage.  Corporate or
organizational users must register all copies used on an individual
basis. A specific person must be explicitly assigned to each
registrant who will be provided with a personalized copy of Rolodex/2.
Registration grants a specific person (not an organization or
corporate entity) the right to use Rolodex/2.  Contact me if you wish
to have a sight licenses, I will work out sight licenses on a case by
case matter.


REPORTING BUGS

If you find a bug in Rolodex/2, I would appreciate it if you would inform
me so I can provide better service. When you send me a bug report, include
a description of the procedure for reproducing the bug and a description
of your system configuration(hardware and software).  You can email any

FEATURES, FEATURES, FEATURES

If you would like a new feature, option, different GUI orientation, or just
some comments about the software please email them to the address above.
All comments are welcome as they will help me build a better program for you.


   Some features I am considering are:
      Country field
      Replacing the name field with a first, middle & last name field.

HISTORY

Rolodex/2 v2.04
               Sizable Screen - The main menu now has a new look.  The window
                                is sizable and most of the buttons have been
                                moved to the menu bar.

               Remove Group   - See below.


Rolodex v2.03  Sort Option    - You can sort ascending/descend by name, city,
                                address, phone etc.
               Search Option  - Under the group menu you can now search for
                                'cards' by tight or loose search.  Tight search
                                will search for an exact match of the string.
                                Loose search will search to see if the search
                                string is in the field.
               Report Option  - There are now some standard printed reports
               Software Upgrade This program is written in rexx and using
                                Watcom VX-Rexx for the GUI interface.  VX-Rexx
                                is now upto version v1.01a
               Other          - Rolodex/2 now load rolodex.dat file by default.
                                You can override this by either drag & drop
                                your *.dat file to rolodex2 or starting the
                                program with you dat file afterwards.
                                ie.  rolodex2 myfile.dat


Rolodex v2.0   Software Upgrade This program is written in rexx and using
                                Watcom VX-Rexx for the GUI interface.  VX-Rexx
                                is now upto version v1.01
               Faster Screens - Several screens will appear and disappear when
                                you start Rolodex/2.  I have improved the
                                speed of Rolodex2 by hiding/unhiding the
                                screens.
               Search Options - You can list cards belonging to a group, or
                                search for a name, address, etc within a group.
               Group Options  - Include search, print, envelops, fax, email,
                                delete.
               Fax Options    - I add support to PSFAX2 fax software.  You can
                                it at your local OS/2 ftp site.  I would like
                                to add more fax software support, but I don't
                                own a fax modem or fax software.  If you would
                                like your favorite fax software added send me
                                some email and I will see what I can do.
               Import Option  - You can now import fixed formatted files.
               Cut & Paste    - There is now a cut & paste option on the input
                                screens.
               Email Option   - You can now import files into your email text.
               More Fields    - There is now a mail name and title.
               Buttons        - There is also Rolodex/2G which is the same
                                program but instead of text buttons it has
                                graphical buttons.  You can edit the buttons
                                with the icon editor that comes with OS/2.


Rolodex v1.4   Group Options  - A person or card can belong to more than 1
                                group.  You can list, delete, print a group
                                or a combination of groups.
               Print Options  - You can now print envelops. I also fix & added
                                labels to phone & notes field.
               Dialing Option - Your modem can now dial work, home, fax, and
                                BBS numbers.
                                (I am looking for a simple freeware/shareware
                                fax program to incorperate into Rolodex/2.  If
                                you have any suggestions please email me.)
               Export Options - You can export rolodex data in three different
                                formats.  Comma, fixed format left justified,
                                fixed format right justified.
               Future Options - I plan to add a search option.  It will list
                                all the names or cards in a certain field.
                                I would like to add a simple fax program any
                                and all help would be appreciated on this.
                                Plan to add emailing files to users.

Rolodex v1.3   Print Options  - Toggle which fields to print.
                                Print combination of groups.
                                Toggle printing blank lines.
               Group Options  - There are six user defined groups.
                                You can list and print combinations
                                of the groups.
               File Options   - Load & Save multiple files.

Rolodex v1.2   Added a note field option.

Rolodex v1.1   You can now send email(1), ftp(1), and print from this program.
               (1) Note:  You need IBM TCP/IP to send email & ftp.

Rolodex v1.0   You can store & retrieve names, addresses, city, state, zip,
               work & home phone, company, email, ftp, and bbs info.

Note: You can only store 20 names in the unregistered version.
